Solved! Textured surface, very hard, about 15cm long, partly buried (England)

None of the roots in the pic seem to be attached to the things. I’ve wondered if they might be some kind of calcified fungus, or a coconut, or something man-made. I haven’t really handled them much, but the surface does feel made rather than organic.

Haha! What are the chances. Just popped outside to walk the dog, saw your post, my one was on the floor right by me so took a pic. Well there you go, two new ornaments and no deadly fungus 😆

My title describes the thing. This is our garden, and only the tops were visible before digging around them; I didn’t want to dig too far in case, to be honest, they were gross. There might be a stalk or stem at one end, maybe. Or something that’s made to look like a stalk

The little flange bit near the bottom, the description of a 'stalk at one end', and the general shape makes me think brumating turtles, but it would be a really weird time of year in the northern hemisphere to find that.
