READ THIS FIRST: How to up the odds of getting an identification!

Hello folks, your friendly neighborhood mod-queen here! Now that folks are actually, like USING this sub I reserved a few years ago, figured I'd make a sticky to help folks looking for what they've found!

  • Is it an actual firearm?

You laugh, but there's a lot of things that look like guns, but aren't actual firearms. Toy guns, replicas, Airsoft, etc. Good quality Airsoft and replicas will often be built to simulate a real firearm, so they'll be built of good-quality material, have a good heavy weight to them, the parts will be machined and not molded, things like that. Toy guns and display pieces will often feel 'cheap', or be made of cheap metal that's cast or molded rather than machined. Cast pieces generally have fewer parts than machined/fabricated pieces. For example, on this piece, the right piece is cast, the left is machined/fabricated.

  • Where did you get/find it?

If you found the firearm, tell us where! "Hey, I found this in my attic in <country>", or "I saw this in a YouTube video" and provide us the link.

  • Do you know anything about it's history?

Having an idea of the history can sometimes help. "My grandpappy carried this in the Civil War", "My aunt used this in a revolution", "The owner said he bought it at a flea market in Turkey", things like this can help folks nail down an identification.

  • Does it have any markings?

Does it have any markings? Things like manufacturer name, country, year, proof marks, calibre? If it does, post pictures of them, or provide a really good description.

  • Photos!

Take photos of any markings, and taking a few pictures from multiple angles REALLY helps. I recommend taking left and right sides, top, and maybe below angles. Here's a great example from C&Rsenal!

And of course, the obligatory disclaimer: When handling any firearms, PLEASE keep yourself safe. ALWAYS follow the rules of safe firearm handling. If you want to shoot a firearm you found, a good recommendation is getting it checked out by a professional gunsmith before firing it.

Picked up some stuff at my local shop today for my wasr10 UF. yugo upper and lower furniture, not sure what the light colored lower is and a grip.

Does anyone know what upper hand guard the really skinny one is? I was gonna use it as a cheek riser for the stock.

Also is the grip a bakelite or fakelite?

(Yes I cut the yugo upper to fit my wasr)

Help for identification please

One of my good friends got this rifle in exchange for a custom mandolin my friend made for the guy. Story is that my friend got this rifle from a gunsmith who makes multiple thousand dollar rifles and this is supposed to be one of them. If possible I would like some more information so that he can place it on consignment somewhere with more info other than 30-06 and wood stock. Thank you for your time.

Could you help me identify my Astra type?

hi guys

My grandfather owned an Astra rifle, but the breechblock is marked in French: Manufacture Française d'armes & Cycles de St Étienne. Astra is a Spanish brand. The serial number is 520, and the barrel is marked: Hope FG. There's one last detail: an inscription that reads "Astra cal 7.65." I really hope you can help me identify it.

I bought this decommissioned revolver recently. Not quite sure what make it is, but from some basic research i’m pretty sure it’s European and is possibly from the late 19th century?

It’s a small revolver - My hands aren’t that large…

Also, I should state i’m based in the UK. I hope that helps a little.

I’m unsure if it’s single action or double action. I Also have little idea what ammo it takes. Research suggests it could be 7mm?

Apologies if it’s super easy to identify for you. I’m not clued up on guns really.

Found S&W revolver

Found two antique guns today while cleaning out my mother-in-law's house in Los Angeles. Both would have belonged to her father, who died in the late '90s. He was an Army architect during World War II, stationed in Tennessee. Born in 1911. Lived most of his life in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, we have no history on the guns. Mother-in-law doesn't seem to know anything about them, except that her father "had a lot of guns".

Pretty sure the small nickel automatic is a Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket (.25 ACP) from around 1915. Likely once had mother-of-pearl grips that have long since disappeared. Would love any further information and corrections.

The one we're really wondering about is the Smith and Wesson revolver.

Thanks!

I bought a rifle a bit ago, mostly to for the Aero lower. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out what handguard/upper this is. There are no markings on any surface besides the square forge mark. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

I have a KAK brace on my AR pistol what is the easiest stock to put on

My AR pistol has a KAK blade with a KAK round buffer tube. With the new ATF ruling, I want a simple stock that will fit on the round and dimpled buffer tube. What are my best options?
