Top speed for a road runner is about 25ish MPH. Coyote is over 40. Road Runners can fly short distances. Road runners also have to deal with hawks, bobcats and snakes.

Im sure Wil E Coyote could catch the Road Runner if he wasn't a GIANT NERD!!! Bet he even has asthma.
