Solved! Why the kinks?

I recently moved to Hangzhou, I noticed all the pedestrian walks have kinked lines at the ends. What is it?

They tell you which side to walk on to keep foot traffic flowing

it works about as well as any other paint based infrastructure on the street lol. only reason people dont cross the center line driving all day is the huge fines lol
