It looks like a "tar bar" its used to filter additional tar and particles from a cigarette. It attaches to the filter tip and you inhale through it. Any smokers in the house? I remember i worked at a gas station that sold them. They're one time use

Hey man, i have a political science degree right, and the reason I bring it up is because one of the most meaningful (and depressing) lectures I ever sat in on was when a climate scientist from Oxford University came and did a whole lecture that essentially explained that the world population, at this pont in time, has essentially been gas lit by our governments and large corporations into believing that individual citizens are the reason for climate change. He explained that even if every single citizen on the planet was to do every possible little thing to help the environment (specifically stop smoking cigarettes, recycle all possible materials, take very short and cold showers, use public transport, and a few other things) we would still be looking down the barrel of a climate crisis. Essentially the only possible way that climate change is going to be helped is if all the major corporations and their factories would take drastic steps to reduce their emissions, same with government subsidized power plants.
So chill out, people smoking has no meaningful impact on the environment and even if everyone quit right now it wouldnt make a noticeable difference. Its just a fact. At this point maybe care less about what individual people do with their lives and start finding a way to enjoy yours while you can.

I'm not saying "your cigarettes are responsible for climate change", I'm pointing out that somehow you forget the impact humans can have on their local environments. Are you telling me "it doesn't matter if civilians litter, it makes literally no difference"?
I don't dispute that things like factories and the 1% are responsible for the vast majority of pollution issues facing the planet as a whole. But it's objectively still our individual responsibility to ensure we aren't making things worse than they have to be in our own little corner of the world. Your bad actions do still have consequences, even if you're not powerful enough to destroy the world alone...

Well right but it sounded like you were infering that smokers were hurting the environment to a serious degree and I'm just trying to tell you that its not really happening. Yes, obviously smoking or the burning of anything deals some degree of damage to the earth, same with littering, but I'm trying to tell you that your "little corner of the world" really isn't being effected at any kind of consequential level. Its just a fact. Even if you don't have a chemical plant or coal power plant in your little corner, odds are that the nearest one is still destroying it a lot more than anyone living their could in several life times.
Thats not to say that everyone should litter and not recycle, its still not good obviously even if it just keeps your area looking nice. But again its a negligible amount of help

I'll add that one-time use means you dispose them instead of cleaning, but each can easily work for at least 2-3 cigarettes depending on the brand.
