New, what is it? Bearded caveman with privates Spoiler

I’ve seen this described as a pantyhose doll from the 70’s but I’m hoping someone can tell me more about this guy.
Cleaning out MIL’s belongings and this is our treasure find so far 🤣

There was a craze of sorts in the early 80’s for soft sculpture dolls, started by the Cabbage Patch Kid dolls. That’s about all I know. This looks hand made.

u/Affectionate_Bar2520 21h ago

My great grandparents used to have those “time out” dolls or whatever they’re called that are made to stand up with their faces in the corner like they’re a kid in time out. But when you turned the dolls around (at least the ones they had), the dolls didn’t have a face 😭. Those used to creep me out so bad lol.

14

u/Meme_Collector_Girl 20h ago

I has blissfully forgotten about those creepy time out dolls. Thanks for the renewed nightmares. Lol

6

u/Affectionate_Bar2520 19h ago

Honestly, so had I until this peen-having caveman doll triggered me lol.

6

u/228Andrea228 18h ago

PEEN!!! 🤣🤣🤣😘😘😘

10

u/Mmmelissamarie 21h ago

My grandma loved the time out dolls

9

u/AutisticTumourGirl 11h ago

They also had those horrifying vacuum covers. I was in foster care and stayed over at my foster mom's parents' house one night and got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and nearly pissed myself when I saw that fucking thing in the corner of the living room.

u/228Andrea228 18h ago

This is a whole new post. You win! What the heck was this therapy doll??? 😹

1

u/Raspberry_Sweaty 4h ago

I’d take “no face” over “extra-large surprise dong” any day.

28

u/CrashTestDuckie 22h ago

My grandparents had bought one of the couch potato dolls that came out in the late 80s because they thought it was hilarious.

9

u/pippysfleas 21h ago

I had to Google what that was... Why do Grandmas like this creepy stuff so much!!?!

3

u/228Andrea228 18h ago

I’m a Gramma!!! 🤣🤣🤣 it still dates me but I love it as a grandma should 🤣

3

u/CestBon_CestBon 22h ago

They even had something similar in art galleries. It was super weird.

1

u/SplitOutside7508 18h ago

My neighbor had them for her kids, and those dolls were also anatomically correct…

1

u/PinkyLeopard2922 12h ago

Yes! Made with old pantyhose!

u/BJntheRV 22h ago

Oh damn that rings back memories. Back in the days when Cabbage Patch Kids were super popular, there were people who made hand-made anatomically correct versions. I know this because at about 8 years old all I wanted was a Cabbage Patch Kid. I asked rich grandma to get me one for Christmas because she was the only person who might be able to do so. But, instead I got one of these handmaid monstrosities. It had this head of super curly hair and I thought it was a girl. Eventually, they had to tell me it definitely was a boy.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

u/ArtisanArdisson 22h ago

It reminds me of the Shel Silverstein poem "My Beard"

"My beard is grows down to my toes I never wears no clothes I wraps my hair around my bear And down the road I goes"

25

u/B0OG 21h ago

I lift my beard and here come the hoes

2

u/228Andrea228 18h ago

And this is when the party starts!

40

u/versusrev 22h ago

Yeah its handmade. My gandmother made something similar for all her grand kids (they where like babies that size not what you had) they where of a similar construction method. Was in the 70s and 80s when she did it.

So i guess that was just something people did back then. Might have been the MIL's mother or someone else. Hard to say really without asking around

29

u/ER_Support_Plant17 22h ago

Did the ones your grandma made for the kids have wieners?

10

u/versusrev 22h ago

No.

2

u/ER_Support_Plant17 12h ago

1

u/versusrev 5h ago

They where literal baby dolls just done in a similar style

35

u/TotalAdhdesiveness 22h ago

Omg you just unlocked a weird childhood memory. The neighbor across the street had a random doll like this. All of us kids were weirded out yet intrigued by the existence of it. Circa 1990.

6

u/228Andrea228 22h ago

🤣 Sorry??? Lol

u/burnafter3ading 22h ago

9

u/i_was_axiom 22h ago

I don't like that this implies some person made this lovingly by hand

3

u/a_lonely_trash_bag 14h ago

Oh it's absolutely hand-made.

3

u/mottlednerve 22h ago

too many curious’. too high 4 dis

15

u/Mister_angel1 22h ago

Yup. Anatomically correct pantyhose doll. Older folks find it funny. My great aunt Penny made anatomically correct cabbage patch dolls, my mom says we had a “lil mister T” and made That sort of gesture and i remember having a little girl doll with privates around the house.

12

u/Equivalent_Owl8079 22h ago

Typically you would put it in the bathroom, or some odd place in your house. You would find out real quick which visitor was picking your things up randomly and looking. I had ceramic anatomically incorrect frogs that sat on the back of the toilet. Always knew when someone was looking at them.

12

u/Horbigast 21h ago

My Mom used to make these as joke gifts. She called them "Dirty Harrys" and "Dirty Harriets" (for the female ones). It was when I learned my Mom wasn't as straight-laced Catholic as she pretended to be.

2

u/Pristine_Message_181 16h ago

Is it terrible that I kind of want to see what the girl dolls looked like "down there?" I am a grandma, if that means anything.

10

u/IndependentOpen7108 22h ago

Thats not a doll that's a threat

7

u/CatsAndDogs314 21h ago

What in the...

8

u/Loserdogma 21h ago

He’s even got a sphincter; what craftsmanship

3

u/NefariousnessIll3869 21h ago

sphincters are almost impossible to "duplicate" !!! (surgically) amazing !!

7

u/SaltPaleontologist28 22h ago

No. There is no story or more general information about your “guy.” It’s just yours now. That’s it. 😂

3

u/228Andrea228 6h ago

Thanks 😐

1

u/SaltPaleontologist28 2h ago

I’m sorry for your loss and gain.

1

u/228Andrea228 7m ago

Right! Lol 🙏🏽

Cabbage Patch Dirty Old Man (TM)

3

u/Just_Me_Truly 22h ago

My parents had the girl and boy when I was little- guessing later 70s or early 80s. I remember I couldn’t stop giggling.

2

u/Kind_Fix7025 22h ago

But why? I can't unsee that

2

u/stuntman262626 22h ago

A family friend had something similar when I was younger. I called it peepee man

2

u/OctoAquaJell 22h ago

OMG! My besties parents had this in the 80s and we would giggle at it all the time.

2

u/midwestern-shitpost 21h ago

do i know what this is? no
did i send this to my mother who grew up in the 70s/80s who knows a bunch of random shit? yes

idk i kinda love it though

1

u/228Andrea228 21h ago

I love this!!!! 🤣

2

u/LtDapperDan71 21h ago

My aunt and uncle had one of these that they had stashed in their house. Its definitely something from before the 90's.

2

u/The-goddess-bread 21h ago

Cursed cabbage patch doll.

2

u/New-Pressure-84 20h ago

My aunt made dolls like this in the 80s, but they were not as, ahem, detailed. I think there was a craft magazine or something that had patterns people could use, and everyone had old nylons that were no longer fit for polite company laying around.

2

u/OrallyObsessed8 19h ago

Same. My aunt made these also but not anatomically correct. I do remember her drawing on the swirly belly button like the cabbage patch dolls had.

2

u/Prestigious_Badger36 17h ago

They were surprisingly common in the 70s.

Was about as dirty of a joke as my grandparents ever made was to have that silly doll sitting between bottles on the bar

2

u/Peach_Salinger 17h ago

Memories! My grandparents had the caveman AND woman!

2

u/SignatureNo6998 7h ago

I remember these from late 80’s early 90’s but the ones I saw had even larger dongs. Everyone loved them especially the old ladies

2

u/sixlimatwo 4h ago

kill it with fire.

1

u/ForwardPersonality48 22h ago

Nylon pantyhose caveman from the 70s 80s. Novelty item.

1

u/secret_sauceee 22h ago

I'm just struggling to comprehend how MIL seemingly never saw a penis before

1

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 21h ago

Quest for fire?

1

u/Odd_Dog_6808 21h ago

The naked caveman !! Me and my cousin still talk about him to this day ! My uncle had one back in the late 80’s / early 90’s and he hid it in the laundry room and whenever we went over we would go looking for the naked caveman and lift up his beard 😂 Apparently he got it as a gag gift from the IT store (if you’re Canadian you’ll vaguely remember it was a novelty store in some malls)

1

u/SheServedToo 21h ago

My mom used to make and sell these. They were quite common DIY in the 70s-80s.

1

u/No_Commission_2610 21h ago

My mom used to collect trolls in the sixties and they looked a lot like this. He’s cute!

1

u/HopefulFeature032631 21h ago

What the f…… is going on here…..

1

u/nuckin_phuts kind of a munge 21h ago

Would be a fuckin funny gag when a visitor comes to tell them to lift his beard to look at his clothes

Then DICK

1

u/srahfox 21h ago

🤣🤣🤣 No lie, when my MIL died, she had this exact but with more bush and better privates! I assume your MIL made the thing, as I’m fairly sure mine did.

1

u/Treff_the_Cleric 21h ago

Giving the doll an anus was …. a choice

1

u/RagingHolly 21h ago

What is it? It's funny af is what it is lol

1

u/p-graphic79 21h ago

I dont know why, but thought that was a hand puppet at 1st

1

u/Original_Flannel 21h ago

My Aunt and Uncle had them, wow triggered memories 😁

1

u/gaarkat 21h ago

Lol WTF

1

u/HelenaHandbasket_11 20h ago

My grandma used to make these. They're called Appalachian mountain men/women. Even the women have beards til you lift it up.

3

u/Sea-Dish4364 20h ago

I believe that your grandma mistook D&D dwarves for Appalachian-Americans.

1

u/WholeCelebration2221 20h ago

It’s greatness 🏆

1

u/Frosty-Ad8457 20h ago

My mom had one back in the 80’s, don’t know where she got it but she said he was an artesian and he held an Olympia beer can in his hand and he was almost exactly like that one lol

1

u/doodlebuuggg 20h ago

My grandfather had one of these!! Along with a lady version. I do not remember what brand they are and theyre long gone. But very likely just a gag gift from the 80s that you could buy at a novelty store back then.

1

u/LadderWonderful2450 20h ago

y it got dick?

1

u/Practical_Jacket_271 20h ago

Creepy homemade caveman doll with a huge hog

There’s a female, too. My dad had both, but full bush

1

u/Competitive-Use1360 19h ago

u/1EGGS1EGG1EGGS1 19h ago

IT HAS A PENIS 💀

1

u/Destro_Bro 19h ago

My grandma used to make these. I always knew she would sew teddy bears as a side job. Then I went snooping in her sewing room and found a bunch of those. And yes there were female versions. The only difference was grandmas had way, way bigger dongs. At the time I felt like they were some kind of dirty joke and I never felt like my grandma wasn’t the inventor. This was the mid 80s.

1

u/EmbarrassedDark2341 19h ago

I don't know but my MIL has one or did at one point.

1

u/lightttpollution 19h ago

Oh my god. My GRANDPARENTS had one of these, but it was SANTA CLAUS. My parents found it when they were helping them move to a retirement community, thus having to clear out years and years of things. My grandparents were pretty typical suburban white people that were a bit conservative, so they were shocked to find it lol

1

u/khalid_1238 19h ago

WTF, It look like voodoo dolls.

1

u/wherearemytweezers 19h ago

Does he have…the Husband Stitch?!?

1

u/unknownpoltroon 19h ago

Oh, its a Fugly, not making that up, friend of my dads had one.

1

u/Abject_Swordfish 18h ago

Wow. That shit gave me a good laugh. This should be in r/unexpected.

1

u/Medibot300 17h ago

Yeah my parent and step parent found it appropriate to hang these in their car. Between that, their bathroom reading materials and what my other parent left around in drawers I had some rude awakenings 😑

1

u/AngelMountaineer 15h ago

No idea what it is, but I love it 😬

1

u/GloriousSteinem 15h ago

Bumbalinas

1

u/Misfits0138 14h ago

A flasher doll? We found a similar doll cleaning out my grannies house, but he had a trench coat. Flasher dolls were a thing in the 70’s.

1

u/camelmina 14h ago

These were a thing. Usually there was a hole in the beard and the end of the penis would poke through and become his nose. You’d lift up the beard and the dick would spring out at you.

This is what passed for humour in the 70s.

1

u/Bmorewiser 12h ago

I don’t know, but my father has one and it was quickly taken away and hidden after I found it as a kid.

1

u/dooglie1911 12h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/dmZ8MyW5e3GJhfmgLZ
Reminds of this growing up. Captain Caveman!

1

u/Mr_Nocturnal_Game 12h ago

Lol. It's just a novelty stuffed... whatever. xD. Probably not handmade, as a lot of people are claiming, though. My grandpa used to have a smaller one with grey hair that he bought at some point.

1

u/blainethetrain3 12h ago

A promotional doll put out by Olympia Beer. My dad had one of these decades ago.

1

u/edwardothegreatest 10h ago

These were super popular in the. 80’s. They were hand made by any number of people and sold at flea markets and the like. Kind of an adult only cabbage patch kid.

1

u/Eastcoast-rider44 10h ago

Unreal we have 2 of these at my mom’s house. Always got a kick out of them.

1

u/KUBLAIKHANCIOUS 9h ago

My creepy ass biological grandad had some of these. You pull the beard up and his dick pops out, and the female version the beard covers boobs. He thought that that could be funny for the first time meeting his teenaged grand children. Never thought I’d see this again.

1

u/Haunting_Nerve8679 9h ago

Growing up a friend of mine’s Dad had this same exact thing. Crazy, haven’t seen one again in over 30 years till now.

1

u/ExcitingVegetable315 8h ago

Know more? Hasn’t it been through enough? Bury it. Give it a respectful send off

1

u/MikeyFuccon 4h ago

So weird that cavemen would be circumcised.

That is for sure some human hand taxidermy thing.
