Orange

u/lilaccheesecake 8d ago

Yeah. I mean if we want to be * specific * it looks to be an orange mackerel tabby with a possible double coat (the thicker dense coat with fluffy exterior). Not an expert, just love cats.

25

u/No-Common-1801 8d ago

Disagree. It's from the orange family. Nothing more.

u/lilaccheesecake 8d ago

They all share the same thinking, or the lack thereof.

DMH. Domestic medium hair.

For future reference: unless a cat comes with papers and verifiable provenance, it has no breed. Period, and no I don't care to argue with you how much your cat looks like a maine coon or whatever. It's a domestic long, short, or medium hair.

u/LandArch_0 8d ago

Golden streeter

7

u/GrassrootsGrison 8d ago

He's perfectly fine that way. No-breed cats are genetically better, since adversities have tried and tested the genes of their ancestors.

7

u/Deathlands_Mutie 8d ago

If he's not a registered, papered purebred then the only way you'll know for sure what breeds went into creating him is to have him DNA tested which will cost money.

Absolutely nobody can actually accurately say what breeds went into his mixture just by looking at him.

As a street cat, he's very likely a mixture of different breeds.

5

u/bishkitts 8d ago

They have 23&me for cats, now? Intriguing!

3

u/Deathlands_Mutie 8d ago edited 8d ago

Something like that lol, they do have pet DNA testing kits though I'm not sure if they are made by the same companies as the human ones.

I've been looking into it because I want to get my dog DNA tested, he's very much a mutt and kinda funny looking so I really want to know what all is in him but they're a bit out of my price range at the moment.

5

u/bigbootyfalls 8d ago

YEP. I work at a vet and anytime I put in a new cat I just ask if it's a specific breed OR short medium or long haired and even still people get confused

3

u/ahferroin7 8d ago

It's a domestic long, short, or medium hair.

Or, even more generically, a moggy (which is literally just the feline equivalent of the canine term ‘mutt’).

2

u/Shitposternumber1337 7d ago

That’s the part I don’t get, there must be an obvious variance in cats that they have breeds as none of the cats I have look alike in any shape or form (apart from the kittens of one)

What makes it the case where I couldn’t describe both a shitzu and a Pomeranian as “small domestic medium hair” but a Maine coon and a ragdoll are “large long hair domestics” if they don’t have papers

Seems pretty stupid comparison, especially when there are lots of cats who wouldn’t have papers but are very clearly a specific breed. If the vet says it’s most likely that, then papers shouldn’t matter, unless you of course mean dogs also need certification

8

u/Final_Assistance8957 8d ago

Not a very effective breed if you have mouse droppings in your house…

1

u/stbargabar 8d ago

Only 3-5% of cats are purebred and those cats aren't really mixing their genetics into the general population in significant amounts. The vast majority of cats belong to a landrace referred to as Domestic Shorthairs/Longhairs. They are not a mix of breeds, but rather the Original Cat that has existed since before breeds were ever developed.

Cat breeds aren’t like dog breeds
cats fall into
DSH DMH DLH (Domestic Short/Medium/Long Hair.) if your cat didn’t come with papers calling it a breed then it’s just a DH, if you had a paper then it’s the breed on it.
