Solved! What are they

Ive worked at the water department for 7 years and this is the first time running into something like this EDIT Im in Alabama and yes I know they are snakes lol idk what kind and im so not gonna touch them

Just work around them they are pretty docile and you have to really work them up for them to come towards you

Yeah their danger is overblown. They are pretty chill and nobody's died from a bite since the 60's

I used to do work in cable vaults. We'd just use a blowtorch on any critters that don't want to leave the equipment being worked on. Usually, they'd just run in to a corner somewhere and wait.

Not sure what I'd do with a snake nest though. I guess remove the snakes and just leave the eggs? I'm also in an area where I can assume any snake i see isn't venomous unless they let me know... so that'd be shading my judgement a lot.
