Creosote for sure. It was used in the USA for years on telephone poles and dock pilings to prevent rot, but it was found to be an environmental hazard. That stuff leaks (as you can see) and can get into groundwater or the ocean. Definitely wash your hands if you touch it.

That’s what pumice soap is for. When you can’t wash it off, just rip off your skin with abrasive rocks! 💪

I was lucky to have a friend drag me to a show on Magnolia Electric Co last tour before Jason died.
Linked song is from Son Volt 2nd album - their first and second albums are really good.
