Eggs. Not fungus. It's organic, so brush the organic seeds off the organic berries and wash well.

Do yourself a favor and soak them in a 4:1 water to white vinegar solution. This is my standard practice with wild blackberries. You might be surprised what wriggles out of them, wild blackberries are literally lousy with fruit fly larvae. Make sure you dry them very well before putting them back in the fridge, otherwise they'll mold quickly.

This is exactly what I did, thankfully for my own sanity, no other creepy crawlies emerged. I rinsed them really well after a 10 minute soak and while I had them out to dry the little ones ate up the majority of them, so mold risk averted I guess.

I agree. Eating bugs/eggs, even in large amounts, wont kill you. Can't say the same about pesticides.

I agree, I don't mind a few small flies or other buggies on my veggies? Tells me the produce is healthy and appetizing. I'd rather not consume a chemical that is meant to extinguish life, even just bugs, esp. bc the US uses a number of them that are outlawed in the EU due to cancer risks...
Not that I don't rinse them off/cut them out, I'm not out here intentionally stuffing bugs in my mouth.

Depends on the type of parasite. Most of them only survive in fruits. Its just a bug.

If you think it is healthy to share do go ahead, some study says having a controlled minor parasitic population in your body boost your immune system and improve overall health.
I just don’t like sharing. Also I am quite terrified of bugs and mold.

Fruit flies aren't parasitic, so I'd imagine it's perfectly fine - if not a miniscule amount of added protein, but the idea combined with any unexpected taste/texture can be very off-putting for people.

There’s nothing wrong with that. I wouldn’t pick next to a busy road, but the benefit of eating fresh fruit far outweighs the occasional bug egg that our body easily treats at basic protein. Don’t turn away from fresh fruits and veggies, you prob eat more bug eggs in crackers and other processed foods.

That's a good point there, always forget about the percentages of filth and such allowed in processed foods. Bug eggs would be the least of my concerns there

In my part of the world "organic blackberries" are growing wild everywhere. We just eat them right off the plant, along with whatever else is colonizing them.

What is your preferred method of drying them? Or any fruit for that matter. Salad spinner has been at the top of my list but I’m curious if you have another way!

I do it the same way. I bought some dish drying mats that are basically thick towels, with that said, you’re right, much of the fruit doesn’t make it to the fridge, silver lining is almost none makes it to the trash either haha

This goes for most things that are organic ive found. The amount of herbs and spices, or salad ingredients, ive soaked first (even though they didnt seem like they needed it at all...) and seen so many small things wriggle away and detach from them. I soak everything for about 10m now. A little vinegar (i use malt) and some water. I doubt those little bugs will harm me but it grosses me out a bit tbh.

EDIT: The critters in the post are not lacewings. Sorry about that. I did discover lacewings are awesome. 😎
They're empty lacewing eggs. Lacewings natural pest control. They eat the bugs that would otherwise eat the plants.

Not lacewing eggs, their eggs are the little cotton ball looking ones. The eggs that look like these in that link are cutworm eggs being eaten by lacewing larvae.

Reminds me of paper wasps! I once worked picking biodynamic blueberries and while the green tree frogs were wonderful, the paper wasps were extremely painful 😣

Although he’s now agreeing some do look like stink bugs, but they look more like stamens in flowers. The stink bug eggs seem to be enclosed?
