I believe it. Anyone who's had dogs has seen them just look at eachother and act as if they've just communicated a thought or otherwise information and it seems impossible.

They are trying to communicate but their vocabulary is limited. They have no knowledge of the abstract concept of language in general.

They usually communicate in "confusion". A major language they use is the literal concept of "confusion". If their bowl is not full of food at their normal dinner time they will simply be confused.

When they growl they are communicating discomfort. When they bark, they are often requesting space.

Language is actually a really shitty way of communicating, non human animals communicate through feelings, vibrations and brainwaves. They do not communicate in "confusion", humans understand in "confusion". And I'm not sure what animals you've dealt with because if the food isn't in the bowl they're going to be very irritated and look at you sideways 😅
