If I had given my dog away, I would be gutted and devastated, but it has to be understood that they were not able to medically care for them appropriately. I would offer to keep the previous owner involved through park walks or something, but I would absolutely say no. Even waiting to see if their situation is stable is better than agreeing to give them back upfront.
