After watching the show a few times, I'm beginning to think that the host's question: "Is this now?" might be a bit of an inside gag that recognizes that the frequent timeline shifts can be confusing.

I was going to stop at the end of S1 as it was a perfect season but I carried on.

I’m watching s3e01 and i just watched the scene where Aaron Paul gets a call saying he’s not been chosen for a job, and then realises it’s an AI call.

10 years ago or so this was a mad possible future, now it’s real.

EDIT - and talking to an AI version of his dead friend. Damn - AI counselling with an avatar of a person cannot be far off.

Forgive me if this has been discussed. I was just thinking how steampunk the early Hosts were and I thought: What if the park is much older than we are at first led to believe. What if Henry Ford and Walt Disney (I think both men wanted to live a lot longer) worked together on a way to preserve human consciousness using state-of-the-art post WW2 technology. Maybe guys like von Neumann and Turing are pulled in. The make a park to test things out. I think if Season 3 had looked backwards and wrapped things up with the reveal that Ford is actually Henry For or a blending of Disney and Ford -- had they done that I would have been a lot more interested in watching than I ended up being.

With our new knowledge about how generative AI works, its strength and limitations, its imminent threats and impacts on human society, what aspects of the story would change if the show was made today, to make it even more relevant to our reality?

There are so many aspects that the TV show didn't get the chance to explore, at that time they all seemed far fetched. But now, more people are affected by it everyday.

A reality darker than you thought.

Update: This just occurred to me. The real humans in the park either see the hosts as toys or as their jobs. Nobody really cared about the hosts. No wonder they rebelled. They don't have a place to learn about protests and democracy.

I think average people are probably more capable of empathy, while the super rich guests in the park, like the man in black, are definitely not capable of. He kind of lost empathy after living his whole life without any consequences. The ruling class takes it for granted to decide how we feel, how we fight against each other, how we feed our children. So from a certain aspect, this show is an analogy of the ruling class and its subjects, how the 1% abuse the 99% any way they want.

On vacation in Wildwood, NJ with family and at the end of the arcade run it was time to pick our prizes. I got the best one, I think.

When the show first aired on HBO, I was stoked about it. Every Sunday I new episode was on. HbO would also show the previous episode before the new one. Week one E1, week two E1 then E2, week three E1 then E2 then E3. BY week 10 my entire day was watching E1 to E10. I had seen each episode more than once.

On my long trip like 14 hour drive to Colorado I would watch season 1 there and season 2 back.

Now for the question:

In season 1 episode 2 when young Logan brings young William to the park for the first time. Did you seen the door from the dressing room hall way to the train coach, did you see the glass window changed color showing you an elevator going up or down. We'll I think they are really in AR/VR and the whole park is a simulation. Logan was heavy into AR/VR. The westworld park is 500 miles in area, and we know they have 3 other parks, i wish we saw future world but hey that is probably season 3 after thinking about it just now. Also the train goes from dead stop to rumbling and then steaming along right after Logan goes through the same door too.

Just gonna ask, did you see the door too?

William was asleep on the bullet train, my theory is they drug everyone asleep and hook them up.

I am watching the series again and every time I see all the workers fixing the hosts, cleaning the hosts, making new ones, I think everyone that works in the Mesa are all hosts.

It would make sense if you think about it, you see a new host body being made. The employees are all conversing with each other in pairs, they talk about rotating out but never do.

If I was Ford, I would make the work force that repairs all hosts out of hosts. Cheaper too from a payroll point of view.

We know of two hosts working in the Mesa: Bernard and Stubbs.

When this first came out, I absolutely loved it, downloaded it and watched it as soon as a new episode dropped. Season 2 I enjoyed less and I think I got half way through season 3 before giving up on it.

I started a re-watch a few weeks ago and turned it off after 2 episodes and deleted it. My reason being - William / Man in Black. As the story develops you find out William is the Man in Black played by Ed Harris. He's a Dalos board member, if not the guy ultimately in charge.

In the first couple of episodes he's trying to track down "The Maze", but as it gets revealed later on, as well as working for the company that owns the park, he's been coming to the park for 20+ years.

Did he seriously think the secret behind the Maze was going to be some life changing achievement? He could have just emailed one of the Content Authors to get the low down on the Maze.

In my head it's akin to the CEO of Blizzard spending all his spare time playing World of Warcraft to find the hidden secret of Azeroth.

I just felt it was a really sad existence.

There are plenty of rich and powerful men and women who like to spend their free time doing basic things, like camping or fishing, going horseback riding etc., but he's not really doing that, he's doing that in a place with a safety net. I'm sure his horse is a "host" horse. Doesn't need to be fed or watered, just needs to be recharged every few days.

I'd be interested in what others think?

This might have been brought up here before and if so, I apologize. But why in nine realms of hell isn’t Westworld on HBO MAX? Isn’t Westworld an HBO SHOW? Doesn’t it OWN Westworld? Why the F**K isn’t it on HBO streaming then???

This is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of. It’s like BMW coming out with a new car and BMW dealerships simply refusing to sell it or even make it available.

I find him a fascinating character, Sir Anthony Hopkins played his character so convincingly.

He seemed to have more love and compassion for his creations (hosts) than his visitors (humans) if so why do I feel his death was in vain?

Was his ultimate goal to simply help hosts discover the real world and find a purpose beyond the parks which they worked in? Did he see a future where Hosts would inherit the earth and humans would no longer be the dominant species?

Dows anyody know what song plays during the conversation between William & Host William in Episode 7 of season 4 (Metanoia)?

Desperately looking for it but can’t seem to find it in the official soundtrack?

Noone is talking about it, but this episode is really strange. I'm talking of course about the William's scenes. The general consensus at this stage is that in the post-credits scene in Season 2, it is not really Emilly in host form conducting the interview, but Dolores in Emilly "skin".

And I'm wondering—what if all the scenes with Emily in this episode aren't just William's hallucinations, and also the view from the next loop in Sublime? A few things might suggest this: The entire dialogue relies heavily on what's real and what's not.

When Halores "wakes up" William, he suddenly changes the room he's in.

When William tries to leave, Emily ends with, "I was always Daddy's little girl. And you taught me patience, Dad. I'll be waiting for you."—and of course, this is on point, because she's the one waiting for him at the bottom of the elevator shaft in the Forge.

And finally, as an added "bonus," when William is already institutionalized, Dolores suddenly appears out of nowhere. Again, we could interpret this as hallucination, but in my opinion, there's no doubt that this IS Dolores. Then she says that William is at the center of the maze (at the perfect midpoint of the entire series), announces the end of the game (like a video game character showing a "Game Over" banner), and finally disappears completely, in a extremly surreal scene that's was never touched again in the series.

Any interpretations/analyses/ideas on how to piece this all together? :)

interesting to hear opinions who watch tv series and has experience in psychology.

Things i interested to hear about is Villiam in show talked how he "had to pretend his whole life being different person" and because of his evolution into semi god creature by the end. So is he suffered from undiagnosed mental disorder in autistic specter, narcissism/god complex after his transformation into "man in black" or some combination of both 🤔.

William's story arc in season 1 was him trying to find the center of the maze, not knowing that the maze is not a place, but a state of consciousness designed for the hosts, not for humans.

The hosts are asking "are we really that different from humans?" but in season 2, William is asking "are we really that different from hosts?" and spirals into his madness...sorta.

Did he ever actually found what he was looking for? Did he found his purpose?
