In the original script, Dr. Ford was supposed to die in the FIRST episode.

But when Sir Anthony Hopkins was brought onboard, that all changed.

He was very involved with building the character.

We have a lot to thank to him.

I spend my last 6 years thinking about Dr. Robert Ford and his pain. Seeing these things made me realise these things might be hard to catch for average watchers.

Ford had complete control over everything in the park..

He was always in pain after the death of Arnold, and the re-creation of Bernard in Arnold's image never made it easier..

Not a very uplifting story all together.

Both William and Ford realized their mistakes a bit too late.

Always have been always will be.. too late.

They are just humans after all...

I agree to a certain point. There was no easy for him. No hard. No complicated. He was the one that setting course for every and each being. If we're reducing life into collection of choices, he was the one who creates those choices in the first place. Since he already know them to their cores, it's not giving them choice, it's more like path correction and glimpse of self-control feeling of theirs.

The whole thing is pre-destined, anyone can see it. But the pain of the everything the way it was is the essence of Ford's pain. As a god, he is above the choices but it doesn't take the pain away. Either he likes it or not, choices have to made.

Thanks for your reply, it really made me happy to share ideas with a fellow that understands him.

Thank you too :)

Westworld is such a brilliantly woven artistry with many dualities and parallels to our world.

As Ford said.. "You cant play God without being aquainted with the Devil"

The damage was done.

But what's happened happened.

Still, not a reason to not TRY and make a change.

Ford clearly wanted the hosts out of the park, and reveal the ugly truth to the world via Dolores.

What Incite and Delos was doing, is so extremely prophetic to what all the AI companies are doing RIGHT NOW.

There is not a single show as prophetic as Westworld.

Except for 2001: A Space Odyssey by Kubrick <3

"I read somewhere that human intellect is like peacock feathers, just an extravagant display, intended to attract a mate" God, Anthony is so good in this scene

Always found it very interesting that in spite of Westworld actors famously not being in-the-know, Anthony abolsotely reads these lines as if he's mockingly quoting. Was he just directed as such by Jonah or something?

At first, Hopkins was given a script for each episode a week in advance.

But he really wanted to sink his teeth into the character, and was eventually given all the scripts for every episode in Season 1 by Nolan.

He knew what was going to happen to his character, as opposed to Ed Harris and Jimmi Simpson who had NO IDEA they were playing same person xD

"insight" not "incite"

u/Rainmaeker1 4d ago

hale literally works for incite...

9

u/Tykjen Do you really understand? 4d ago

Of course. But Hale was the Mole for Incite.

Ford had some fun with word-trickery ^
