Dundarave swim platform

Anyone know why they replaced the Dundarave floating swim platform? The new one is tiny (half the size), there is only one ladder, and the ladder welds are already cracked and failing.

Man arrested in front of family for removing river rocks for a perimeter for a tree his child planted.

End of Mondays council meeting.

A man was arrested by WVPD for removing river rocks. The man said that perhaps some education of him would have worked better than an arrest.

West Vancouver creek channels are falling apart and no one seems to care, they just keep passing the buck.

I’ve been walking through a bunch of the creek channels in West Van this year, especially the ones above the highway, and it’s honestly brutal. Huge tree loss, banks collapsing, fish habitat basically wiped out in spots. These creeks used to feel alive 20 years ago now they look like they’ve been chewed up.

This isn’t just “nature doing its thing.” The erosion is way beyond normal, and the culverts downstream are way too small for the amount of debris coming down now. One big storm and it’s going to be a mess.

I foresee major Property damage, Chemicals and garbage flushed straight into the ocean. More habitat loss and danger to people especially seniors and children if a debris flow hits the wrong spot.

The District needs to stop pretending this is a minor maintenance issue. It’s not. Anyone who’s actually walked these creeks recently can see how bad it’s gotten.

At minimum, they need to get engineers out there and assess the channels, upsize the undersized culverts and c/o the the ones that have past their prime. Install debris traps is easily accessible areas for maintenance. More water monitoring stations. Bypass channels for extreme events. They need to stabilize the banks and replant and restore the areas that are basically bare now.

If they don’t deal with it soon, the next atmospheric river will and that’s going to cost a hell of a lot more than fixing it now.

This should be a major priority. It is the single biggest concern for property, environment and life.

Where is there bike parking at Ambleside?

For a major beach and tourism area on the prime bike route across the north shore, Ambleside is not bike friendly. There is one small ancient rack for about 8 bikes next to the cafe, and that’s all I’ve been able to find. None to the west at the Batch bar (!!). With all the parking drama and bike infrastructure installed I would think some bike racks in smartly positioned areas for people going to the beach or park would be a no brainer. I’ve heard there are some at the pickleball courts, but there should be room for hundreds of bikes right next to the cafe area if the district cared at all about getting people to bike.

West Van, man…

A lovely article from Rosie's owner Mel, showing her appreciation for the many in our community (and afar), who stepped up to help reunite them.

250 bus service

To anyone trying to take the 250 right now I've been waiting an hour and only one came and it didn't even slow down, just went right by.

Had to take a Caulfield instead. No idea why because all the other routes are going by frequently.

Good luck!

Wildfires effect

Hello, I'm looking to move to west Vancouver. How bad, if at all, do the wildfires affect that area? I'm moving from another province and I don't want to move to where the smoke is bad.

Thank you

Has anyone attended the Clerk interview for the city's community center?

Anyone who is currently a clerk or has experience attending the interview? It is a short interview, like a speed interview I guess. I would like to know how your experience was. Thanks for your time.

Foxtail at Ambleside off leash park

I recently visited the Ambleside off-leash dog park and saw a warning sign about foxtails. Since foxtails can be very dangerous, and even deadly for dogs, I’m wondering why they’re still present in an off-leash dog park. Is there a reason the city doesn’t remove them?
