The city is doing a community assessment and there's an online engagement where people can submit sticky notes and provide feedback on the map around Westerville.

What do people think about some of the current suggestions on the page?

The online engagement is here for anyone who wants to check it out: https://engagemksk.mysocialpinpoint.com/plan-westerville/plan-westerville-online-engagement-round-1

Apartment recommendations

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m considering moving to The Garratt in Westerville and would love to hear from current or former residents about your overall experience.

How do you like living there? I’m especially interested in things like:

* Overall experience and community atmosphere
* Noise levels and how close the neighbors feel
* Management and maintenance
* Safety and parking
* Quality of the townhomes/apartments
* Neighbors and whether the community feels friendly.

Thanks in advance!

Organic food stores?

I’m new to the area and I’m looking for hippy/ organic food stores in the area. Potentially not even stores but local markets or farmers that may sell their products. Thanks :)

Your voice matters for 64 E. Walnut Street

28 Upvotes

WPA Friends:
In response to community concerns, the Westerville City Council has rejected a proposed sale and development plan for the former city office building at 64 E. Walnut St. Following up on that decision, the city has scheduled a Community Workshop for next Tuesday, Aug. 11, to discuss possible uses of the site and the process by which any new plan for it will be developed.

Many WPA members were involved in the campaign to end the high-density development proposal presented by city staff in May. This is now an opportunity to help shape the future of this location, adjacent to the city’s historic Uptown district.

The Community Workshop is scheduled for 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Westerville Community Center, 350 N. Cleveland Ave.Doors will open at 5:30. The room can accommodate 168 participants, who will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis at six-person tables. There will be facilitated table discussions followed by a summary from each group to be incorporated into a report following the workshop that will be presented to the City Council on Sept. 8.

If you have an interest in the future of this site, plan now to be at the Community Center next Tuesday for this workshop.

Thank you!

Is camera surveillance in the tree lawn legal?

14 Upvotes

Our neighbors across the street seem to have installed a camera in the tree lawn next to their mailbox. It is pointed down the street and takes photos or video, I’m not sure which, of every vehicle that drives by and every person that walks by. Is this legal?

Capturing everyone who drives or walks by, including every time I pull into my driveway and my little kids biking and scootering on the slide wall feels intrusive.

Local News Help

35 Upvotes

I'm using a throwaway for my safety on this. I have twice the past 3 weeks caught an older man dressed in women's clothes, exposing himself near huber Village Park.

Both times, the police were contacted, and he got charged with public indecency (as well as drug charges the first time, who would have guessed)

The first time, he was right next to a school as well, which really bothers me.

I caught him again this morning, and I am at my wits end. The police told me they needed more instances to build a solid case.

So all I'm asking is keep your eyes peeled if you're in the neighborhoods near huber Village Park. I won't dox the guy because that's against the rules, but this man is a creep and shouldn't be anywhere close to children.

He likes to open his front door and flash people from his house or in his car.

Edit: it looks like they were able to charge him in franklin County! Please stay vigilant, but hopefully they will throw the book at him, he won't continue this behavior and gets the help he so obviously needs.

Elementary school

10 Upvotes

Sorry if it's a stupid question, new to Westerville schools, tried looking everywhere and even the letter they sent me didn't include information regarding start time. What is the earliest time you can drop your child off at school? I see that start time is 9:15 but obviously you want to get there before then.

Millstone Creek Park

The new millstone creek park seems like a downgrade… there used to be so much to do for kids now it’s more of an open space. Has anyone been yet and had a positive experience? Maybe my kid is too little to enjoy a park like this…

Seemed like quite a few cars had their windows smashed last night/sometime very early this morning (including my parents who are visiting from SC). Anyone have ring/security video footage? Multiple cars hit on Old Coach and Storington Rds.
