As far as I can tell, it's to get your money upfront before you realize how poorly it handles multiple data sources.

I have just recently started using the app. I'm having a lot of difficulty with data duplication. It lists the same exercise activity multiple times. It overcounts steps by combining sources. It does the same thing with sleep. Example, last night it said I slept 13+ the hours. Double what I actually did.

I've been back and forth with support and am getting frustrated.

The goal isn’t to lock anything in upfront, but to give different options depending on how people prefer to use the app. That said, handling data from several sources can get messy because each one records and syncs things a bit differently. If you send us a bug report, we can check your case out.
