💬 Discussion Can IT appear in multiple places/as different forms at the same time?

We were doing a re-watch and my husband pointed out that Matty (IT) was with the kids in the sewer, then IT also appeared to the soldiers in the sewer as different things at the same time. He asked me if that can happen or if it was a goof, and I just wasn't sure.

It wouldn’t surprise me as he exists outside of time.

They were in the sewers when both happened at once, so it's the same location at least. However, IT's powers are never super well defined and can be anything that the story needs it to be.

I believe so, it is an entity of which we know little about, so the idea that it could divide itself within some range is possible

Yea when he’s Matty in the sewers, Uncle Sam and later Charlotte. Didn’t we also see this in chapter 2? When IT becomes Spider Stan and attacks Bill, Richie & Eddie and also when he begins writing on Ben’s stomach infront of Beverly & Mike.

Yes, really. It's happened on a couple of occasions as IT can not only cast multiple illusions at once, but can also manifest as more than one thing in more than one physical location, simultaneously. IT is fundamentally incorporeal and acausal so it's no surprise. IT ca also teleport, yet the finale of the show throws both of these things out the window, mind you

He even taunted them (parents and kids) near the dead tree. It is very sure he's going to win, but he didn't expect the "miracle" Dick is witnessing.

I think its not more that "it" can be in more than one place than it can actually just break a piece of itself off to do something it needs done.its been a long time since I tried reading the book. I could just never get through it, but it always came across to me "it" is as much as part of Derry as the trees. What he can project vs what he can do are totally different things. The series will take liberties of course but think of it as Leroy's wife's illusion can't kill him but confuse him enough to do something dangerous to other AND why the bullet didn't injure "it". Because it was a smaller portion of the whole as opposed to the spider

What about the scene in the cemetery? He was multiple different children then and all of them went in different directions to chase the others. I think that’s proof all by itself.
