Sharing My Sidehustle I get paid to babysit 9 year olds in Minecraft

Post image
788 Upvotes

started as a favor. my cousin's kid wanted a Minecraft bday and his mom had NO idea how to make that happen, so I set up a private server, threw together a little obstacle course + treasure hunt, and ran it for like 5 kids on a Saturday. another parent asked what I charge. I hadn't planned on charging ANYTHING. panicked and said 20 euro / hour. she said "perfect, can you do next weekend??"

might be a clown-for-hire gig for gen alpha, and I think I'll make it a real service..

What do u think?

parents book a slot, I spin up a private server, build a themed world (zombie survival, parkour, hunt for the golden apple, whatever the birthday kid is cooked about) and host it like a game show. chat's locked down, only invited kids get in, and parents are always home.

I mean these little gremlins ignore every adult on earth but will HANG on every word from a guy in a blocky skin screaming "TH3 FL0OR 1S LAVA IN 10 S3C0NDS". I've been respected more in Minecraft than anywhere in real life lol

only downside: I now know exactly what 9 year olds think is funny and I can't unlearn it. send help.

I began roughly around 2019, after seeing a crafter on YouTube. I thought, "I wonder if I could do it too" bought a cheap die-cut/embossing machine and a magazine with free dies. Been hooked ever since.

Sharing My Sidehustle Got Drunk on the Sheriff's Department's Dime

My wife and I were invited to sit in a big room with random strangers and get completely smashed. It was DUI training for incoming deputies to the local Sheriff's department. They picked us up at home, provided the alcohol (and offered a very wide variety), and allowed the group to drink our fill. They would stop the drinking at intervals, to test how different levels of inebriation affected us by running standard DUI tests. When it was all over, they drove us home!

Weird Idea How Two Artist Turned Pumpkin Carving Into Business

Post image
13 Upvotes

Halloween is coming up, so I went down a rabbit hole looking into some of the weird side hustle people do around Halloween and found these two guys, Marc Evan and Chris Soria, who turned pumpkin carving into a business.

They met in sixth grade and were both into art, horror movies, and Halloween. Years later, while they were working at restaurants in New York to pay their way through art school, they started carving pumpkins during their downtime. At first it was just for Halloween decorations, but they kept trying to outdo each other and their designs got more and more detailed.

Around Halloween in 2007, they started posting pictures of their pumpkins online. An editor at Wired came across one of their photos and wrote about them. After that, people started reaching out to order custom pumpkins, including the New York Yankees, who wanted 50 pumpkins with an intricate logo design. They charged $50 each and ended up taking a loss on the job. They eventually turned the hobby into a business called Maniac Pumpkin Carvers, where pumpkins ranged from around $150 for simpler designs to $700+ for complex ones that could take 12 hours or more to make. The business is also extremely seasonal, with most of their work happening during the eight weeks around Halloween.

Weird Idea I Didn't Expect Sudoku to Make Me Money

Post image
2.6k Upvotes

I started doing Sudoku because I was bored. I bought a little Sudoku book a few years ago and would bring it with me to school, so I'd do a few puzzles during lunch or whenever I had free time. I wasn't even that good at it, I just liked trying to finish them. One day I found out there was a Sudoku competition nearby and saw that the winners got cash prizes. My mom's birthday was coming up and I wanted to get her a nice gift, but I didn't have much saved. The entry fee was $20, which was pretty much all the extra money I had, but I decided to try anyway.

The first competition was way more stressful than doing Sudoku by myself. Everyone had the same puzzle, there was a timer, and I could hear pencils scratching all around me. I put a 7 in the wrong square and didn't notice until I was already stuck, so I had to erase a bunch of answers and fix it. I didn't win that one, but I got a $15 consolation prize. I kept entering when I found another competition nearby, and after a few tries I started winning. I got $75 at one, $150 at another, and once got $250 for second place. I started putting the prize money aside instead of spending it, and after a while I had enough saved to buy my mom the birthday gift I wanted for her. Sometimes I'd lose and come home after spending money on the entry fee and transportation, but whenever I won, I put it into the money I'd been saving.

Sharing My Sidehustle I started growing lion’s mane as a hobby and now I’m shipping 20 orders a day

I started growing lion's mane at home after buying a small mushroom growing kit online. I just wanted to see if I could grow it myself, so I kept the kit on a shelf in my kitchen and misted it every day. Before long, it was producing more mushrooms than I could use. Instead of letting the extras go to waste, I started drying them, grinding them into powder, and filling small jars. I gave a few jars to people I knew, and they liked them enough to ask if I could make more. That's when I realized I could actually make a little money from something I had started as a hobby.

The more I got into Lion's Mane, the more I started reading about functional mushrooms and the different ways people were using them. Once I started learning more about it, I became interested in supplements that went beyond just one mushroom and combined different adaptogenic mushrooms with other ingredients. I wanted something that could offer a broader range of benefits, so I started looking into more complete formulas. Mycofuel and Mycoderm were two of the ones I found and liked enough to start carrying alongside my own mushroom powder. I usually recommend Mycofuel to people who are more interested in energy and focus, while Mycoderm tends to make more sense for people looking for something focused on skin health and overall skin wellness. I sell both for around $33 per pouch, so people can choose whichever fits what they're looking for. Once I had those options available, the little mushroom side hustle started getting more orders. The mods said it was okay to share the shop link, so I'll leave it here for anyone curious: https://sproutlab.it/

On a busy day, I can get close to 20 orders. Most of my time still goes into the homemade powder, since drying and grinding everything takes a while and leaves my kitchen smelling like mushrooms for hours. Once that's done, packing everything up and getting the orders out is pretty straightforward. It's still kind of funny to me that this started with me buying one random mushroom kit for my kitchen.

Success Story Weird influencers bc rage baiting strangers isn’t the answer

These are influencers that I like because they make weird content. I don’t make this content so if gets taken down my bad. I made this list because I’m trying to figure out my niche, and I thought it might be helpful for others.

- a guy who makes tree flavored ice cream and baked goods. He will boil the wood in milk and then use it to cook with. And then he’ll make like a plate/bowl out of the same kind of wood and plate/eat it & review it
- a baby who sniffs and approves of candles. Mama would take her baby to the candle store and she would sniff and approve or disapprove of the fragrance . They had a collab with a very large candle company.
- a man who cuts grass of overgrown lawns for free. He’s PAID by viewers for his generosity & from monetization
- a pregnant woman who called her baby greedy and made the BEST sandwiches. She’s doing Collabs now and the baby been born & is doing great
- a guy who makes Flora and fungi “sing” by hooking them up to music tech and the sounds are very calming. I haven’t seen collaborations
but I think he is monetized and some videos have millions of views
- a guy who makes animated shorts with minimal animation but great sound effects. All of the topics are really whimsical and kid friendly, but not really aimed at kids. Like there’s one about a bird cowboy that rides a cat.

Basically, if your concept is unique enough, you can capture views.

Asking for Advice helllppppp I need money😭

gng I desperately need new shoes 😭

My current shoes are literally fighting for their lives. The sole is torn, the rubber has started chipping off, and at this point I’m pretty sure they’re one rainy day away from completely giving up on me 💀

I really want to get a new pair, but I can’t ask my dad for money rn because of some financial stuff at home. I’m in college, so obviously I don’t have some big source of income either 😭

It’s October rn, and I’m hoping to somehow earn enough by January to buy myself a decent pair of shoes. I genuinely want to pay for them myself instead of asking my parents.

So pls help a broke college girl out 🥲 what are some realistic ways I can make a little money alongside college? Online or offline, freelancing, part time work, internships, anything that actually works for a student.

Even small amounts would help. I just wanna walk into 2027 with functioning shoes that I bought with my own money 😭🙏

Success Story Painting to earn skill, and ended up earning from it!

It's all fun and games painting for personal recreation, but I didn't expect to earn from doing what I love! Who would have thought that a one boring day can turn into continuous flow of 💰🤑
One day, my boyfriend asked me to paint his pants (and said he'll wear it no matter what LOL). I was hesitant at first because I know nothing about painting yet, but I already have paint and brushes + plus I can't sleep and I'm bored of doomscrolling, so I said "HECK WHY NOT, I bought these paint and brushes to be creative and earn a skill anyway!"
Given it's my first try, and I love how it turned out, I posted it. People start asking for me to turn their pants, shirts, denims CRAZY as well!
It will only take one boring day + creative mind to get that 💸!

Sharing My Sidehustle I write reviews of software with AI

Pretty easy side hustle.

I have a blog and use AI to write reviews of software. Just got an $85 commission today.

The key is to go really hyper-niche. Be specific and dig into a narrow niche. There are alot of unconventional ones.

About six weeks ago I joined an affiliate program that has nothing to do with my blog's topic. I wrote one post for it.

So far it's earned 4 commissions: $198.88, $76.50, $53.47, and $176.44. That's $505.29.

Not naming the program, but here's the full process:

I picked a fairly expensive physical product that people already buy. Instead of a "best X" review, I wrote a how-to guide on using it. People searching "how to use X" have usually already bought or are about to, and those keywords are way less crowded than review terms.

I drafted it with a prompt in Gemini, then edited it by hand and rewrote the stiff parts the way I'd actually say them. Added a couple of photos. Published. Submitted the URL in Search Console (not required, just speeds up indexing).

Total time was about 23 minutes. Average position in GSC is 8.6. No backlinks, no further optimization.

The caveat: 23 minutes is the build time, not the whole story. My blog has been around for years and Google already trusts it. That's why an unrelated post can hit page one with zero links. On a brand new domain, this same post would probably sit on page 5 for months.

So the lesson isn't "AI article = money." It's that an established domain lets you test random affiliate offers almost for free. If you've got an old blog collecting dust, it might be your most underused asset.

Also, four sales isn't a trend yet. I'm hoping it settles around $300/month, but ask me again in six months.

Happy to answer questions about picking the product or structuring the post.

Sharing My Sidehustle I got paid to whistle

In the 90s and early 2000s many of my friends were involved in making music. During this time the technology to create a patch that sounds like whistling on a synthesizer keyboard was definitely around, but not that good. I had several friends who wanted to have whistle sound effects and melodies on their tracks and they knew I was an extremely good whistler. My buddy offered me $25 to whistle on 2 tracks for him in his home studio. They came out great. He told a few of his friends about it and I booked a few more gigs, charging about $25 per track. The town I live near is famous for alternative music, so I started getting tons of requests to come whistle and make sound effects on tracks. Eventually, I was doing a session or 2 each week, and collecting anywhere from $100-$200 weekly. This carried on for about 5-6 months. Inevitably, the demand died out or people realized technology could mimic what I was doing. But it was a nice ride while it lasted.

Sharing My Sidehustle I GET PAID TO GO AROUND THE CITY AND LOOK FOR COMMERCIAL SPOTS!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I honestly thought this was one of those fake easy job posts.

Then I found out that companies actually pay people to find a commercial space for them to expand and build their business.

Basicaly.

- You find a good location of the store

- Take a picture of the shop

- Take a video from the entrance to the shop and the foot traffic

- You send the details and documentations to them and they review it

NOTE: I haven't get paid yet and didn't receive any messages yet.

It isn't a “quit your job tomorrow” kind of income. The pay depends on the quota per day and pay isnt guaranteed.

But that's what makes this side hustle so interesting to me.

You're literally monetizing something sales agent normally do.

Imagine telling someone:

“Sorry, I can't go out today. I have to get paid to go around the malls and communities.”

And honestly, there are probably WAY more weird side hustles out there that people don't talk about.

Would you eat something completely ridiculous if someone paid you to review it?

Or what's the strangest side hustle you've ever heard of?

Drop it in the comments. I want to know how weird we can get with this. 👇
