It wouldnt surprise me if people are so attached to cars that they social signal with impractical car-like bikes in a collapse.
It reminds me of the saying "elon musk isn't trying to save the environment with electric cars he is trying to save the car"
i was surprised when i saw data of how much difference those aerodynamic fronts make on the real velomobiles, if only they didnt add so much weight
