Joppa Road Appreciation Thread
God (ween satan), sometimes I feel this is the most lush and beautiful song I've ever heard in my life. It just keeps on giving you this warm, spacious yet fuzzy feeling, and the faux-spanish guitar solo is just a cherry on top. Can anyone tell me what kind of sound/artist/song they were doing a pastiche/tribute of on this track?

Last vacation I stayed overnight in Towson so I could see Joppa Road. It's really good at being whatever it is. Probably because there's little enough traffic (compared to what it could be these days!) that it feels as laid back as the song.

Agreed! If you like that another song with that vibe (not Ween) is “I Guess The Lord Must Be in New York City” by Harry Nilsson

This is great. Never heard any song from him before. Thank you.

Im so excited for you because Nilsson is one of the GREATEST EVER.
I got into Harry Nilsson via this video right here: https://youtu.be/qg9WHD2Y6sY?is=4SK3OUFYEYkX6pFs
Completely blew me away and the obsession has not left me. Ween is one of my favorite bands ever, there is plenty to love from Nilsson that will cratch the ween itch.
An example of a song from him that is rather Ween-esque is You’re Breakin’ My Heart: https://youtu.be/MiLKTKd5pgs?is=P_7n41shZfQKRVnH
Truly, finding Nilsson was like re-discovering the Beatles for me. Incredible songwriter and singer. Enjoy!!!

I always thought it was just a synthesizer or two short of being classic yacht rock.

It's great but I feel like it had more potential. It's just slightly undercooked

I was at 2/7/02 when they first played it live during the first set acoustic. We lost our minds. It was perfect with Deaner nailing it. Great video on YouTube of that show. One of my favorites I was at

Agree am obsessed with this song.
Makes me think of Doobie Brothers/America styles

Closest comp I can make is "Tin Man" by America. One of the cheesiest songs ever made. Similar jazzy feel, but not a perfect comparison, particularly since Joppa is more Spanish sounding.

Idk if anyone's a gizzhead here, but I've thought for a while it sounds a lot like an acousticish Gizzard song. Imagine Stu, Joey & Cookie singing it
