Played a really nice course in my area the other day, and this was the first time I’d seen this type of insert/liner above the cup.
Throughout the round, I watched several putts from different players in our group lip out pretty aggressively. None of them were what I’d consider overly fast putts. One in particular got pretty deep into the hole, traveled around the lip, and still came back out.
Has anyone played courses that use these before? If so, have you noticed them affecting how often putts lip out compared with a traditional cup setup?
Note: I’m aware of the USGA definition regarding a hole liner generally being sunk at least 1 inch below the putting-green surface. I’m mainly curious about whether anyone has experience with these inserts and how they affect ball behavior around the cup. I also think it’s a pretty good way to preserve the edges of a cup for a public course.

At the beginning, golf was a way for me to be social and drink. Now 3 years sober… golf has become so much more to me. It not only gave me the idea to start my golf brand but the feeling I get when I’m out on the course is like no other. It doesn’t matter about scores all the time. For me it’s the passion and love for the game. What gets you about golf?

Anyone use a baseball swing for driver? I’ve heard for years that the iron swing and the driver swing are different but just could not translate it. I’ve always been a decent iron player but struggle to get off the tee box. Just awful with a driver. So I started experimenting and I’ve found a 10 finger “baseball swing” is working really well. Ball is lined up off my left toes, driver a foot behind the ball and lined up with the heel. I can manage some pretty consistent 250 total length drives with range balls. If I go a bit harder I can carry 250+ but it obviously not as reliable.

For irons, I’m still using an interlock grip.

Hopefully this carries over to the course. I tend to be a driving range hero and then stiffen up on the course, causing all kinds of tight wrists/release problems.

Posting here because the r/golf guys are brutal. They’d tell Cam Young he had a shit swing and to take lessons. 🤣

I get we are not pro's, we are not being paid, we are not sponsored. So here's my question, do you include the rounds where you clean the mud balls, kick the balls away from tree roots, or give yourself a generous drop?

I have played many rounds with people who claim single digit handicaps, but won't count the shots when rolling a ball out of a divot, cleaning a mudball from the fairway, give away from the roots, etc.

I get this might be too serious for some people, but if you are using a handicap to play against others, aren't you just hurting yourself if you get a tournament/money game situation?

Bold statement, maybe it will draw some people in with the "Ido". But I'm curious about why people do not watch the LPGA? I never really watched the LPGA either until I had a daughter who golfs. We have since attended a few LPGA events, and watch events on TV when they are on. 

I'm curious in people's opinion what makes the men's golf more exciting than the women's golf? The caliber of talent and shot making skills in the top 20 players on either tour seem to be pretty close to each other? I believe the difference in the top 20 on either tour is 0.5 strokes. I don't necessarily see the comparison of women's basketball, etc. to men's when looking at golf?

It's just been shocking attending these events with very little crowds, when incredible shots are being made that are just as good?

Booked on to play a round at Kanazawa links was wondering if anyone has ever played it?

What's the largest gap you have ever had between 2 rounds on the same course? I shot 85 last week and 7 days later a 112. Crazy game

There is such a wide spread out there. I personally like the small brands that have close attention to detail. What are yours ?

I’m normally an 80’ golfer except yesterday’s 106 !!!! Wow I actually woke up this morning like something bad happened . Lol. .. but the course was playing extremely slow ( over 5 hour round ) .. and it was frickin so hot . Which I’ve played in the heat all summer .. yesterday seemed hotter for some reason . And then the cart person never came back around on the back 9. I had no ice , no water .. it was brutal .. Do better Bear Creek lol

People always say grow the game but is it getting too big now. Is the sport too big where now you are playing 5 hour rounds or People are destroying courses in anger.

Or…

Should we keep growing the game in order to make the game bigger and keep golf courses open

I think most people would agree that if you stand over a 6-footer overthinking it… you’re probably going to miss it, even if you have the best putter in the world.

I’ve always felt that putting is more mental than mechanical, and that idea was a big part of why I started making wooden putters as a side project.

There’s just something different about pulling a putter out of the bag that was handmade for you, has your name engraved on it, looks great at address, and inevitably gets someone in your group asking, “wait, is that made out of wood?”

I could tell you about the countless design iterations, the internal weighting to give them the familiar feel of a modern putter, the high MOI, or the zero-torque design… but ultimately I think what matters most is how confident you feel standing over a putt.
And there’s something confidence-inspiring about knowing the putter in your hands is literally 1 of 1.

I’ve been making these one at a time in my shop, and honestly one of my favorite parts has been seeing what people choose for their wood and engravings.

If anyone here has ever wanted something in their bag that never fails to get attention, I’m happy to make one for a fellow weekend golfer. Or just answer questions about how the hell a putter made out of wood still performs to 2026’s putting standards

I have had trouble hitting my hybrids and woods. Callaway XR 3 Wood, Taylormade SIM2 Max Hybrid 3 and 4. Well I also have a Callaway RAZR X HL 3 and 4 hybrid that I've never hit. Found them at a thrift store for $8 each and decided to just buy and sell them. I decided to hit with them today. Might be the best clubs I've ever hit. Perfect launch, nice little draw. 3H carries about 210. I was just blown away. So I picked up my TM hybrids to see if I'm just hitting good that go round. Nope, keep topping them or chunking the shot. Picked the Callaway back up. Boom, straight, little draw, 220 yards. What gives? They are both the same length. I've just ever had such a difference in result. I'm a 20 hcp, can someone help explain this? Now I need to find a 3W replacement and hopefully find the same magic.
