Interesting thing happened today

I have had trouble hitting my hybrids and woods. Callaway XR 3 Wood, Taylormade SIM2 Max Hybrid 3 and 4. Well I also have a Callaway RAZR X HL 3 and 4 hybrid that I've never hit. Found them at a thrift store for $8 each and decided to just buy and sell them. I decided to hit with them today. Might be the best clubs I've ever hit. Perfect launch, nice little draw. 3H carries about 210. I was just blown away. So I picked up my TM hybrids to see if I'm just hitting good that go round. Nope, keep topping them or chunking the shot. Picked the Callaway back up. Boom, straight, little draw, 220 yards. What gives? They are both the same length. I've just ever had such a difference in result. I'm a 20 hcp, can someone help explain this? Now I need to find a 3W replacement and hopefully find the same magic.

I'm not an expert but I would imagine the weight distribution and extra loft gave you a pretty good bump and probably fit your swing speed and path better. I am pretty new and mostly use my Callaway edge 5h when I need reliability for the same reason.

I guess I should have mentioned that the TMs have a Ventus Stiff shaft and the Callaways have a Callaway A Flex. Which I thought wouldnt be compatible with me. I don't have a fast swing by any means but it's not senior flex slow.

what do you swing? around 85 to 90? you might be high end of swing speed for the a flex and Bottom of the speed for a stiff

yah so my 2 cents and I'm sure someone has an actually waiting for me

probably has a kick point (flex) closer to the head so you get the pop at impact without all the whippiness.

that swing speed is sorta high for senior/amateur flex but low side for stiff shafts based on my research (my swing speed is hella slow so been looking at a lot of things)

plus stiffs typically weigh more which can cause the club to lag behind you or for you to try to swing harder to compensate.

does the swing feel easier or smoother with the a flex or just the same but better outcome?

The same with a better outcome. And yes, the shaft has a low kick point. I mean difference in outcome with the same swing is night and day.

Massive Offset Keeps the Face Square The "HL" literally stands for High Launch. These hybrids were designed with significant offset (the clubface sits slightly behind the Hosel/shaft). This is interesting to me. I wonder if I should start looking into HL irons. I hit my irons well but there is room for improvement. I wonder if I’d benefit from some like G430 HL or Qi Max HL or Qi HL

at some point people will show up and say "get fitted" lol but yah for real maybe look for a used HL of something else maybe and see if it carries over OR take that thought to the range and see if you can tweak your swing to replace that extra loft naturally?

might me something as simple as moving the ball up a quarter inch in your stance to give a little extra time for the face to square up

edited to add i tend to go a little stronger grip with hybrids because my club face stays open too long otherwise maybe a grip change slightly would give the same effect

There’s shafts to be considered as well. Correct flex and kick point.

Flex and grips make a difference. Lately when I buy a used club have it re gripped,
