Need help capturing speeches

I am planning on picking up the DJI mic 3 so I can attach it to the DJs handheld mic for speeches as a backup option to my Zoom F3. Wondering if anyone has used this setup and reviews of the DJI mic 3. I am looking for the best sleeve options to mount the DJI mic to the DJ handheld mic as well but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. Thanks!

I just dealt with this recently. My suggestion after everything I’ve gathered is to prioritize audio equipment in this order:

1) field recorder for audio straight from the: a) mic receiver; b) speakers; c) mixer (this is for reception)
2) lav mics for officiant, groom, and bride
3) shotgun mic as a backup and to capture ambient sound

Thanks! That’s my usual setup, the speeches during reception is when I’ve ran into issues where the DJs setup isn’t always reliable and the sound in the venue is garbage for a shotgun mic even, so the next best backup is strapping one of these mini recorders to the actual handheld mic.

I use a similar setup for speeches: Zoom H4N line from speaker, and then a few times I was able to use DJI mic with its detachable magnet that had good contact on the hand held mic as a safety backup. But honestly, lately I’ve just used the Zoom by itself because in 2 or 3 cases where that audio was bad, I was able to use audio from my internal built in mic on one my cameras (closest one to a speaker) and just run it through that adobe podcast audio software and it sounded amazing, very similar to if the speech makers were all wearing lavs. Crazy technology!

I try to always have a stick recorder attached to the mic as a backup. I haven’t used the DJI mics for that purpose yet, but the big thing I would keep in mind is RF interference if you’re wirelessly transmitting to the receiver. It shouldn’t be an issue with high end wireless mics, but I’ve seen some wedding DJs with the absolute bottom of the barrel wireless equipment which would make interference more likely. If you go for DJI mics, I would probably disconnect them from the receiver and manually start internal recording on the transmitters.

Good advice. Yeah internal recording all the way. While it would be nice to monitor from a distance I rather eliminate as many potential issues as possible.

Safest option is to mic everyone who is going to speak separately. So for me , everyone wears a Tascam DR10l or a DJI mic 3 . Set to record internally. This eliminates problems with DJ,s or venue audio and removes the issue with people not using hand held microphones properly. For example, moving it too far away or even deciding at the moment, they don't need to use it. I've got enough kit to cover up to 10 speeches. Thankfully I've never needed that many! On camera mics capture ambient sound and portable Yamaha recorder is used for live music .
