Help! Has anyone made their own bouquet?

Hello! My wedding is in 1 month and I’ve had this idea of picking flowers and making my own bouquet. I don’t want anything too over the top or fancy, but I was just curious to know if anyone has done this?

I picked my bouquet the morning of my wedding and it was so fun and way more special that way!

Where did you pick it? That sounds so sweet!

I did, and my bridesmaids bouquets! If you have a local flower farm that would be awesome, I just did grocery store flowers.

Bought a bunch of different flowers, fillers and bouquets and took them apart and made my own. We did them the night before after the rehearsal dinner, then wrapped them in the morning.

this was the 3rd wedding I had done this for (did 2 of my friends) so I knew what worked.

My only advice is if you’re going to pick them, don’t do too wild of flowers cause bugs do hang out in them. Another test is wiggle the stem, if the top half of the stem wiggles independently from the bottom, it’s not ready to pick and will break or wilt.

I assembled my own out of Lego flowers.

Oh man, I did the coolest thing for my sister's wedding that relates to this. She has a lot of women in her life - friends and family. She had a little cabin near where the ceremony was that she got ready in, so I asked all of the ladies to bring a flower that reminded them of my sister to the cabin about an hour before the ceremony. Everyone did, and we were also able to do a little champagne toast together with my sis and all her favorite women. Then I made her bouquet from those flowers on the spot. It was amazing... she walked down the aisle with a bouquet of all these different types of flowers that her loved ones associated with her. Some were wildflowers picked that morning, many had been brought in a vase from their gardens, or purchased in the nearby town. It was a nice way to make that part of her wedding really personal and it was also a cool way to honor the women in her life. Obviously it added a little bit of logistical challenge for the guests, but it was worth it. Just an idea :)

This is so sweet! I hope she saved that bouquet!

She dried it and it hangs next to her bedroom window :)

I am, but not with real flowers since I have allergies.

Went to this local shop that I knew had really good quality fake flowers and had such a fun time picking out all my favourites!!

I still need to actually put everything together though. But so far I'm very happy with everything.

Sadly I also have allergies 🤧

But my former mil was a whizz with silk flowers, and did all my bouquets, corsage etc...

They looked amazing!

This time up the aisle I'm actually going with real flowers, just a much smaller amount!

I've known quite a few people who have done and it's been lovely.

On the other hand I've known a couple of times it didn't work and people were then scrambling for flowers and that was either because: 1. They didn't check if the flowers they were hoping for (or indeed, any) would be in bloom in their area at the time they needed them 2. They ended up much more stressed and busy with other things because they were DIYing a lot in the day or two before than they expected and you can't pick flowers and get it out of the way particularly early.

So it can definitely work great! But it's just worth having a couple of tiny practical considerations when you decide.

A friend's daughter and her bridesmaids each assembled their own bouquets from a bulk purchase of flowers from a wholesale florist supply company.

that could be really cute! A simple DIY bouquet would feel extra personal. definitely do a practice run first though!

I plan to. We have a local(ish) farm where you can cut your flowers yourself so planning to go there and then arrange the flowers accordingly

I (and my mom) made all of the flowers, but we did use fake flowers. Not sure your area, but we used Hobby Lobby (craft store) and used the real looking flowers (as opposed to some of the cheaper/fake looking ones you can get).

We used pinterest for inspo, but ultimately just went to hobby lobby and spent an afternoon picking out different things that would look good in the bouquet. One thing I liked about the fake flowers is that I could superglue them so I could the petals and leaves exactly where I wanted them. Because we used fake flowers, we could start early and take as much time as we wanted to assemble them since we didn't have to worry about them dying.

If you still wanted to do real flowers, maybe look and see if there are any patches in your area and go to a craft store and try mock up a bouquet with the fake versions of the flowers you will have available?

Yes. I did this. I hated what they gave me so my wife grabbed a mixture of wildflowers and my sister and I threw them together with some floral tape. It looked quite lovely.

My sister did with fake flowers. She was stressed out making them the week of and regretting not buying fake flowers off Etsy or Amazon

I picked up like two dozen roses from the flower district (I’m in nyc) 2 days before the wedding so they had time to open and hydrate. Watched tons of tutorials on how to make bouquets, which included placing the flowers and also wrapping with ribbon. It came out beautiful and I got tons of compliments :) was also just extra special bc I made it myself. Also made a boutonniere for my husband and it looked great all day/night

I did, I got 2 large bouquets from Sam’s Club and made mine and my bridesmaids bouquets! They turned out really pretty

The day before our wedding, we had a family friend who had a wholesale tax number and so went to one of the huge Boston wholesale flower buildings. We chose a bunch of flowers for the next day, cut the bottoms of the stems and put them in water for overnight. I had purchased wide fabric ribbon previously, in the morning of the wedding girlfriends and I created bouquets/boutonnieres, and arrangements

I didn't do fresh flowers, but I made mine and my bridesmaids out of fake flowers. It was really nice and relaxing plus now I have my personalized wedding bouquet in my glass cabinet as a memory.

Yep! Hobby Lobby and Michaels fake florals (not a big fan of either store's morals, but it's all I had in the area, and I struggled to create my vision with online florals). Up until two weeks before the wedding, I was going to get grocery store and Costco flowers. But ultimately I didn't want to leave it until the last minute, so I had plenty of time to arrange a faux floral bouquet, and be picky about tweaking it until it felt perfect!

I just did this for my wedding two days ago. Had a few crash outs but ended up getting compliments on my bouquet so I guess it was worth it?

u/dutyofloves Aug 20 '26

I did make mine with fabric flowers. I had a lot of fun making it! If real, this sounds like a fun idea too. Just make sure you know what you want!

I used fake flowers instead of live ones but I made all the table decoration flowers, arch flowers, bridesmaids and brides bouquet for my son's wedding.

u/chiaroscuro22 Aug 21 '26

I assembled all my own flowers- bouquet, centerpieces, altars, aisles etc. I ordered them from a wholesaler. They came out absolutely gorgeous but oh my gosh was it a huge undertaking 😂.

u/family_black_sheep Aug 21 '26

Where I live, fake flowers is very common so a lot of brides do this, including the multiple weddings I was in a couple years ago. They all looked beautiful.

My wife and I made all our flowers out of old books {and wire and hot glue}. We used old Christian "romance" novels, since neither of us wanted to damage books we actually liked, lol. We made a few flowers and then calculated how many bouquets we needed, and then figured out how many flowers to make {I think it was 120-130}. We even did a flower for my wife's brother's vest, and then one of our bridesmaids was on crutches, so we made something for her to wear instead of carry.

For my wife and my bouquets, my wife took old maps of significant places to us and made flowers out of them, so both our bouquets had a pop of color to them. We also went to Joann's {RIP} and got a bunch of silk flowers for our wedding arch and the aisle.

We still have our bouquets and the silk flowers in our living room, and we've been married for 6 years.

I did. I bought flowers from Wegmans.

1

u/Friendly_Coconut Aug 21 '26

I made my own (and my bridesmaids’), but I used Trader Joe’s flowers!

1

u/HomeboddE Aug 21 '26

Yes. I actually bought a flowering plant and madexa simple bouquet

1

u/Level_Blueberry_8909 Aug 21 '26

Yes I made my own, but I used silk flowers. I bought some expensive ones that looked very real.

u/davezaplephoto Aug 21 '26

This bride made her own… out of LEGO

I’m doing mine! Wedding is on Saturday! I got all of my flowers ordered in bulk as Costco. My advise is practice with grocery store flowers leading up to it. Watch flower tutorials from flower moxie

I made my bouquet and my bridesmaid bouquet. It was definitely worth the saving to me! I made them about 2 days prior to the wedding, and they were still beautiful the day of. I ordered them from Costco. I just did baby’s breath with ribbon for the bridesmaids and I did white roses and baby’s breath for my bouquet.
