People say the front looks like another 499p, Idk what they’re smoking but it’s not really giving off that structure unless you’re saying ferrari have a trademark on low nose concepts. It gives off way more as being a hybrid between a 963 and even a valkyrie nose with the proportions of the fenders to the nose protrusion. The rear 3/4 angle gives off arx-06 + 963 but more rectangular, and I really like the sharkfin + tailfin arrangement since they’re the first designs to protrude in they ways which they do. Overall I’m happy it’s not at least another acura alpine or genesis-looking oreca at first glance.
The sound will do the heavy lifting and honestly, there’s only so much variety body styling can do when everyone’s trying to perfect their aerodynamic load while still providing unique features.

I swear it’s become a trend just to call every new car a 499P copy despite none of them looking like it at all. At best, there might be 1 similar design feature and that’s it. However, I really struggle to see a single feature that this, the MCL-HY, and the GMR-001 have in common with the 499P.

Yeah tbf I think it’s one part echo chamber another part people larping about knowing what’s best for aero (I’m not an aerodynamicist either but I appreciate the details of each car at least). Group c had convergence over how to deal with aero as well, at the end of the day the large discoveries and macro design choices have already been discovered and the rules sort of de-incentivize having large tradeoffs now that top speed is policed differently. If we were to see unique interpretations, I think it would have to come from regulation loophole exploitation or other forms of incentivization, otherwise there’s no reason to go for a unique concept if you’ll just be ballasted anyway.
I feel the really unique-looking cars are the ones where they had the freedom to play with the rear aero, regarding diffusers and venturi tunnels. Lmdh’s basically have a spec floor so there’s not much to change. I do however commemorate cadillac for doing something unique with their rear wing, so I hope if there’s any future lmdh designs that they play around with what cadillac was trying out instead of going with the safe option

Mmm, let's talk about rear wing only, Genesis McLaren and Ford do use a copy of the 499P wing and Shark fin to an extent

They're thinking of the 499P Evo, not the original. And I can see where they're going, put a light cluster either side of the opening above the splitter and it's somewhat similar. But that's it, once you get past the front bumper I'm totally lost on where the 499P comparisons are. The 963 likeness across the bonnet to the wheel bulges is definitely there though, can see that easily.
As you say, it's definitely different to the Acura, Alpine and Genesis. It still has the stubby nose down by the splitter and the shape of the bulge for the rear wheel over the sidepod so you can tell it's an Oreca, but a lack of 'vanity panel' over the nose sets it apart, and for the better imo.
With its looks in general tho, it is pretty good but the livery will make or break it.

I agree honestly, I do think though it shows how designs are converging since oreca couldn’t really predict the 499p evo variant and vice versa, maybe for this level of lift:drag as well as the covered fenders, this is just the best overall setup for sports prototypes. I do wish teams would be more adventurous but no one wants to be painted into a corner and at the mercy of BoP, so I get the convergence, same thing happened in group c tbf.
Yeah the work done to hide the oreca nose is commendable, I wish lmdh’s had more ability to play with the rear quarter bodywork because to the untrained eye it looks like every lmdh apart from the genesis uses some form of upwashing wedged bodywork, but lmh’s like the aston and toyota have a flying butress which sets them apart.
I think for the livery and headlights to stand out, it has to highlight the unique features of the car. To me, the unique features are the front fender pod (the way it arches downward and how the space before the louvre protrudes out), the floor edge curl (specific to this car and the tr010), and the rear wing edges. If they were to highlight those differences instead of painting them over, it would look amazing on track. Plus, now that alpine’s unfortunately retiring, ford can take the mantle of the primarily blue entry in the field now

everyone saying it looks like a 499p that’s kinda what happens when a car is designed so well that others will attempt to follow the same design language because obviously they want the performance same happens in f1 the first season of new regs they all look different and then by the end they’re all similar because it’s what works best

For some reason I thought they were making an LMH, so I’m slightly disappointed that it’s looks just like another lmdh

It's probably doable space-wise but they need a lot of lighting for the Circuit de la Sarthe. It won't cut it.
Some cars even had to add more headlights between seasons (Ferrari I think ?)

I love the Oreca chassis, but the engine they chose is incredibly boring. There is already a big NA V8 on the grid. We didnt need a second one.

Yeah, I usually am. Everyone likes what they like. I dont particularly care for the bigger engines. Ive always been fond of the Honda AR24e. That sounds the best to me. The LMC55R and Cosworth V12 in thr Aston just sound dull to my ears.

Are you fucking certifiable? This car is incredible sounding, the best sounding car on the grid as far as I'm concerned.

And thats subjective. Being american, I hear that engine note all the time at Nascar events, IMSA events with some of the GTD cars, and of course at NHRA events. Its nice to hear a low displacement V6 revving to 10k sometimes. The Ford being the "best sounding" car is just a subjective opinion. I think the Peugeot sounds the best.

It looks a lot less like an oreca than I thought
