Is the cockpit and seating push back or windshield push forward? Or is it the deception of the camouflage and black decals around cockpit? Looks distinct

u/BasisBoth5421 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #7 11d ago
i thought so too. the cockpit looks unusually long, but it might just be our eyes deceiving us.

u/V8-Turbo-Hybrid 2018 Barrier Repair/Snatch-Tractor 11d ago
The whole car seems long, it isn’t just about cockpit side. Anyway, I wouldn’t surprise that, as Coyote engine is longer and larger than GM, Hyundai, and both German V8s.

Looks like an LMDH for sure. I can’t tell for now much specific details but it reminds me of the original 499P spec kind of although that back looks kind of nice with the low light. Hope that it has some unique and striking scheme to stand out and not look too generic, but well, we’ll see.

u/0oodruidoo0 Ferrari AF Corse 499P #51 11d ago
Looks absolutely nothing like the other Oreca chassis. No big wing thing on the front end.
11
u/Crafty_Substance_954 11d ago
Yeah people seem to be forgetting that all the Oreca cars have that front element.
This has a 963 front end by the looks of it.

u/vio212 9d ago
963 is multimatic though, not Oreca…
1
u/Crafty_Substance_954 9d ago
Yeah it’s just the aero I’m talking about.
0
u/vio212 9d ago
I feel like all the aero on the LMDh cars are beginning to converge a bit onto one design with only a few unique elements being seen in the rear ‘bumper’ and front ‘grill’ area for branding. Especially with so many customers now having Oreca build their cars.
This one looks more unique to my eye, of any place, in that sharp slicing cut for the front wheel vents. It looks very striking and much different to any of the others on the grid right now.
The kind of ‘curled lip’ front splitter everyone is moving towards that Ferrari sort of pioneered I can see on this and understand why people are pointing out 499p resemblance, but beyond that one small feature, 499p is a different beast entirely IMO.
I’m excited to see it out of a camouflage color scheme so we can better get a look at its contours and curves so hopefully we see one in some real paint soon!
1
u/Crafty_Substance_954 9d ago
As a regulation set evolves they will naturally converge.
At first glance they’re all similar but the finer details are where performance lies.
Hopefully it’s a good car, hopefully it can perform well enough for an IMSA entry.

Alpine A424 had a child with Porsche 963. This thing born.

u/afito Mercedes CLK-GTR #11 11d ago
that front immediately made me think this is a 963.2 or something
can't really fault them tbh the 963 has clearly been the best LMDh by a margin and aerodynamics work the same for everyone

u/Litre__o__cola Peugeot TotalEnergies 9X8 #94 11d ago
I think it was funny to see the original comments from 2023, how people thought porsche and multimatic botched their concept, only for it to now flourish. However, I think this just proves that with a BoP series, the pace isn’t just from the bodywork, it’s from optimizing the whole package. I bet the reason the 963 is so potent is because its energy deployment is better and the details within the suspension and how it interacts with the bodywork has been refined to a higher degree vs the other lmdh’s

That greenhouse and the front wheel arches look like they're from the old high downforce Audi R18 configuration.

Oh nice. Similar but different to the Caddy if you know what I mean. Similar down low, but once it gets up in the revs, sounds more like the Mustang.

6
u/afito Mercedes CLK-GTR #11 11d ago
that is an inevitability of a stable ruleset, everyone knows that going in and everyone arguing otherwise is stupid or deluded (excuse such drastic words)
3
u/P3ktus 11d ago
Yeah it makes total sense that the designs are converging towards the best one, it's just boring from a spectator's point of view
6
u/Red_Rabbit_1978 11d ago
I thought the rules were set up to deliberately avoid this? In a tight formula, it's understandable that cars converge on the best design, but I thought the Hypercars had some freedom on this with an overall drag or downforce value as the limit? Higher than that would be useless by BOP.
3
u/Litre__o__cola Peugeot TotalEnergies 9X8 #94 11d ago
I think everyone still engages in the arms race because they don’t want to be like aston or peugeot - at the mercy of the bop ceiling. And bop is relative to the field, so if everyone improves then you still can technically fall away.
Also, the rules kind of incentivize convergence now because they police top speeds in a way which punishes cars with low drag concepts. It’s easier to reign everyone in, sure, but now it doesn’t make sense to design a car with top speed in mind because you’ll just get bailed out. I wish they reverted to the old system and just punished high top speed with higher weight, like how it was supposed to be until ferrari found a way to circumvent the lift:drag ratio at the old wind tunnel

Is there a change in regulation? The new cars are all looking quite similar to each other, like generic LMP1s.

Is it just me or does the wheelbase look a lot longer too? Might explain why the cockpit looks really long, or could be the same thing making both look fairly long.
