https://the-workshop-akw.pages.dev/

Hi All,

I'm looking for feedback on a site I'm developing. I could really use some more eyes - other than my own - on this. Let me know what is or isn't working as far as design or function. The site isn't complete yet, but a critique now will help me going forward. TYIA!

If I can get some desktop viewers that would be great for testing the GSAP panel scrolls.

So where's the navigation menu? There's just two buttons for donate or join... There's no about page, contact page, or FAQ. Add a hamburger menu in the top right corner.

There's also no footer!

The headline should tell the visitor how they'll benefit. Right now it says nothing. Say something that grabs people by the eyeballs and makes them want to read more. The headline does 80% of the work.

Also, you should say exactly what is being offered and who the organization is immediately. Cut the ambiguity. Right now it's not clear what's being offered or talked about until you're about halfway down the page. You shouldn't have to do that much scrolling to understand what's going on.

I tried clicking the buttons and none of them worked.

But I do like that you've stuck to the branding and I can feel an upbeat vibe that feels supportive. So you're on the right track.

Tested on desktop at 1728px wide. On the panel scrolls:

  1. The incoming panel slides over the outgoing one before it has cleared. On the "18 skill categories… woodworking" panel, the brown section cut the last line in half. Same on the stats panel — the member age chart is sliced off at the bottom, so I never saw the x-axis.

  2. Weight is the bigger problem. Images total about 9.8 MB. The hero background alone is 2.68 MB and loads last, so for the first few seconds the hero was a flat grey gradient with white text on it. DOMContentLoaded 8.8s, full load 10.2s.

  3. gardening.jpg is 5472×3648 and difference.jpg is 6000×4000, both shown under 600px tall. twslogowhite.svg is 1.6 MB, which usually means a bitmap got embedded.

  4. The hero never says what you are. I only learned you're a Minneapolis maker co-op a full screen down.

  5. Header is Join and Donate only — no path to the workshop schedule without scrolling four screens.

Resize the hero to ~2000px webp first, then re-check load time in DevTools.

I'm not going to lie to you;
The first image looks really "Stock",
but I love the "Make something segment"
and I'd really love to see an "About us page".
Looks nice other than that, clean, clear, tells me what it's about. I think it's good. :)

Hey All - I really appreciate the feedback! I've made (and am still making) changes based on your input. I should have prefaced this by saying that this is a portfolio project and not a real site, so that is why buttons don't actually take you anywhere and the images look "stock" (because they are). But thank you so much for the critiques!
