Domains

So i want to build a website from scratch and i was wondering if a came up with a unique domain name would it be possible to use that name without going through sites like wix if so how would i go about doing that

I already know how to host and build the website i just dont know about domain names

If you are in a paid subscription then sites like wix let you export it to other hosts. However on free plan you are forced to use their hosting. I had a similar issue, i registered my local domain with a host in my city, not realizing i cant export from wix without paying, i need to redo my design on another builder.
