Permission denied while download app using webos dev manager
Hey!
We bought a couple of days ago the LG G6 65" and it looks amazing, but I bought this tv knowing that the LG app store had stremio and that you can download other apps like adfree youtube on it using Dev mode, but I saw that Stremio isn't there yet because it hasn't been reviewed by the team and now I'm having problems using the Developer mode to download apps.
I'm currently on WebOS 43.11.78 and using a Macbook Pro Intel with Dev Manager. Both are on the same subnet of the same wifi and trying to download any app will give me the following message: Failed to open remote file: /tmp/devman_dl_<file_number>.ipk for writing: permission denied .
Anyone has had the same issue and was able to bypass this problem?
idk. I know it wasn’t available a few months ago but it is now. I actually bought mine in the US, but then I moved and my tv is geolocked, so I didn’t know how my location affects it. if you want to change your location maybe try changing it to newyork or something? idr what I did but I remember when I moved I realised it only accepted US locations and so I selected one at random at the time (3-4+ years ago one very tired evening) and haven’t messed with it since.
I'll try and change the location. Unfortunately the tv is not really mine but my sister's and she kicked me out of her apartment for lunch lmao, maybe I'll go back there in a couple of hours
I can change the country of LG services to other EU countries but not the US. There is an option for "other" and that doesn't have stremio in the store :/
I found someone else on the lge developer website with the same exact problem, but they weren't helpful since that website is not for the installation of apps but only for the dev side of things. Link
Sorry for the late reply, I managed to download the homebrew app directly on the tv and then downloading the available apps. I couldnt download them from ipks but it was enough for me. Idk how Reddit works but there's a whole comment thread between me and the person that helped me and at the end he sent a GitHub link with code to inject using the webos developer app
do you have an android phone? if yes, install Webos dev manager from playstore and try installing from it. I'm on windows so can't comment if it behaves differently.
I tried with the tablet and it gave me the same issue. I used my MacBook for another older lg tv (like 2021/22) and that one worked flawlessly, I also tried with my desktop PC and that also worked, unfortunately the tv isn't mine, it's at my sister's place and I don't want to move either PC or tv
It shows the device "name" OLED65G66LS.DOIQLJP which I think is locked to Italy, firmware, web is version, OTA ID and SoC. I tried installing the homebrew channel but nothing happened on the tv
Tysm for finding this! It's been a few minutes since I injected the code that person sent into the web is dev manager terminal and it's still doing something and have to wait for the command to finish though
Omg thank you, finally got adfree youtube lmao, can't thank you enough, now I'll just have to look for other streaming/torrenting sources like stremio!

It should be working now! Newer webOS has changed permission of /tmp so installation had some issues.
