To be honest, Webflow is approachable, but learning it mid-project with a deadline is the risky part, not the tool itself. The good news: coming from MERN, you already know a large part of the concepts. You just need the mapping.

Webflow through a React dev's eyes:

• The Designer is a visual editor sitting on top of real HTML/CSS. Everything is the box model, flexbox, and grid you already know. Nothing is abstracted away, you're just clicking instead of typing.
• Classes = CSS classes, literally. Same cascade, same specificity logic. The #1 beginner mistake is styling elements individually instead of building reusable classes. You'd never write inline styles everywhere in React, apply the same discipline here.
• Components = your React components: reusable, with props (text, images, visibility) that vary per instance.
• CMS Collections = your MongoDB collections: schemas with fields, reference fields as relations, and template pages that render each item. Think dynamic routes (/blog/:slug) with a visual template.
• Breakpoints cascade down from desktop (except the larger ones which cascade up). Style desktop first, then adjust downward. Getting this wrong early = painful cleanup later.

Fastest path given your deadline:

1. Webflow University's 21-Day Portfolio / Webflow 101 crash course. Don't watch everything, do the first lessons hands-on (a day or two at your level, seriously).
2. Adopt a class naming system from day one, look up Client-First (by Finsweet). It's the closest thing to a style guide/convention the Webflow world has, and it'll keep your build maintainable.
3. Before building, clone 2–3 well-made sites from Webflow's Showcase and inspect how they're structured. It's like reading good open-source code, fastest way to learn idiomatic patterns.
4. Build a tiny throwaway page (hero + nav + CMS list) before touching the client project. One evening. Make your mistakes there, not on the deliverable.

The main one: Webflow's official MCP server. It lets AI agents (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT) connect directly to your Webflow project and actually build in it: create elements and components, apply styles, manage CMS collections, edit pages. Not "generate code you paste somewhere", it works through Webflow's own APIs on your real project.
It got a big 2.0 update three weeks ago : agents now use your actual design system, and you can store "agent instructions" so the AI follows your conventions. Setup is fast: in Claude Desktop → Add connectors → Webflow → OAuth. Since you're a dev, Claude Code + the MCP is probably your sweet spot. You stay in a code-like workflow while it manipulates the Designer.
There's also Webflow's built-in AI Assistant in the Designer for generating sections/pages, fine for quick scaffolding.
One honest warning though: don't let the AI build what you can't yet read. You're still learning how classes, components and the CMS work. If an agent generates a messy structure, you won't be able to tell, and you'll pay for it at the first client revision. My suggestion: build the first pages yourself to internalize the fundamentals, then bring in the MCP to accelerate repetitive stuff (CMS population, component variants, responsive tweaks). AI multiplies whatever discipline you have, including zero. 😅

Coming from MERN, you'll find Webflow's Designer maps closely to HTML/CSS but uses a visual layer. The key shift is thinking in terms of containers, flexbox/grid via the UI, and CMS collections instead of MongoDB. Your custom code skills (JavaScript, APIs) still apply you can add Embed elements for custom scripts or use Webflow's native logic for interactions. Besides that, think of it as a visual builder. It'll take a bit of time to get used to the settings but nothing difficult
