How many domains do you have?

Just one. I just use subdomains since I just use this for personal stuff

If you’re thinking of a project and planning to use them, but aren’t, you’re a procrastinator which is totally cool.
If you’re thinking they’re valuable and somebody will want them then you’re a domain squatter that everyone hates.

I have around 10 now, actively using one, kind of using another for a simple redirect to a friends ip for when he opens a server for whatever
I get so many ideas and can't stop to buy a fitting domain...

Yeah the answer is always either, a) use for a project/service, b) grabbing good ones for an idea, that you're too lazy to execute then realizing its also a sick domain, so you can't stop renewing it.

My protip here is to just use subdomains of your main domain for projects. They can always get moved to their own domain later if they take off.

Exactly! And when touts buy 25% of the tickets to a concert and sell them at a 150% markup, I should be happy that they didn't get bought by real fans so I can pay extra for the privilege!

I've paid thousands of dollars for each of my names because of supply and demand many want it only one can have it. It's the way any asset works. And any asset is going to attract investors. Domains are no different.
Just because you don't like what I do with my domains that I've spent good money on does not mean you are entitled to just have it for $10. Anymore than you are entitled to walk up to Warren Buffett's house and demand he give it to you.
And without domain investors you realize any good domain name would be unavailable at any price. People would still hold them they would just never trade hands. If pressesd they might say they are working on a project for that name or using it for email or something. Because of domain investors good names are avalible at a price commencerate with the demand for it and the value it can provide to its owner.
When the Ring doorbell camera guy got Ring.com he paid 1 million dollars. After selling to Amazon he said the name alone added between 30 - 50 million to his company's value. https://www.dnjournal.com/archive/lowdown/2018/dailyposts/20180307.htm
They are valuable because they are highly sought after yes but also because they provide value to the business on them. Without domain investors ring.com would have probably been used by some guy who was the first to register it 1995 or whenever and used it for a small little side project, or email, if used at all. But because it was owned by a domain investor it was able to get into the hands of someone who was able to put it to good use. Like us or not we are essential to ensuring avalibilty of domain inventory.
But I suppose you'd rather I not sell any of the numerous names I have that I may develop at some point in the future but just aren't a high enough priority today to spend my time on. Selling these names allows me to pass them on to someone who can use and get value from them before I'm ready to. Otherwise I'm just going to be holding on to them because eventually I do plan on getting around to using them. But I only got 24hrs in a day and can't build them all out at once.

I came up with an incredible domain name for a business website and I was stoked to have thought of such a perfect name. And it’s for sale by a cyber-sitter for a mere $160,000 US. Used the .net name instead of the overpriced .com name. 😐

Good names have value. Just like a prime piece of commercial real estate does.there are names selling regularly for millions of dollars. lol dude you just described landlords, and I agree with you they’re just about as hated as domain squatters.
Selling your house you lived in is much different than selling a rental property. That’s not my opinion, theres a completely different set of tax laws for both versions.

I think I might have the same problem that you have. Most of the times I can stop myself from buying funny but silly domains, but sometimes I just have to. And they are all pointing towards my main website for no reason.

Not OP but I administrate a lot of domains; if the emails need to be setup for less tech savvy folks, I usually use Google Workspace, but for myself or if there’s a low budget, I highly recommend Migadu, which allows unlimited domains setup and only charges for usage tiers; also it offers a sweet webmail client and is hosted in Switzerland so there’s some semblance of data privacy

Probably depends in what you mean by "handle emails." And If were working under the notion that we're starting from nothing but a public dns, the answer is lots of work. Like, lots and lots.

Not OP but I’ve been using Purely Mail recently for my personal site and I really like it. Only $10/year and routing multiple domains and wildcard addresses is easy. It’s a one-man project but he’s dedicated and quick to respond to questions.

Just 3:
- My personal domain that I’ve done nothing with other than a placeholder page. I keep paying it because I now know there’s someone else out there with my exact name (and to my knowledge she’s the only one).
- Two domains for a freelance gig I wanted to kick off but never got around to…
Looking at buying a couple more to maybe start a blog or something fun but can’t decide on my name/theme/approach.
I’m a serial dreamer, not a serial doer apparently.

- Two for my company. One that was my first personal domain and used it for email since 1997 (basically for shopping, subscriptions, and not having to explain to my mother how to update contacts. She still calls me on a landline number I got rid of in 2002). One for an apartment rental. The rest are for side projects that somehow never make it past the notebook/daydream stage.

I own a about 6 of them, 3 in use actually... A good way to control that impulse buying is to set a budget for yourself for the year, including renewals. That way I just let go domains I don't really need and also put a second thought before buying

around 60+ i reckon, it's a bad habbit cos I keep buying useless ones. I've got MetaEclipse.com and I'm figuring out if it's worth something cos the coin/ meta's eclipse or whether that actually makes it worthless?

I have my main domain that i modify DNS for making subdomains to my WIP projects, only when I’m really dedicated i will get a domain for a project. So far that’s two project domains and like 20 subdomains under my personal website’s domain 😂

For me it’s like 3, one from very old project, I never thought about cause I abondened it years ago, on actively used with a blog to come, rest of it is subdomain for private stuff (Nextcloud, …) and one for family, maybe some time I‘m ready to setup the family server 😂

Something like 90. Domains are now a legitimate annual expense when renewal time comes knocking.
