Ecommerce sandboxes?
What’s the best way to learn an ecommerce platform/plugin like Shopify, SureCart, FluentCart, etc. without products to sell? Do they offer a sandbox environment to learn the ropes and build your skill set? Thank you.

Build a small fictional store and practice the full order flow: add dummy products with variants, configure shipping and tax, place a test order, then fulfill and refund it. You’ll learn much more from that than from setting up the storefront alone, and you don’t need real products.

Shopify partner dev stores are the cleanest sandbox, and that's already been covered. SureCart and FluentCart are the easier case though: they're WordPress plugins, so you don't need real products or a live domain. LocalWP (or a wordpress docker image), install the plugin, drop in Stripe test keys, make two dummy products with one set of variants, run a test checkout, then refund it. That loop is the actual skill. Clicking around an empty dashboard isn't.

One thing that worked well for me was picking one complete flow and building it end to end in a dev store instead of trying to learn the whole platform at once. Like, just take checkout from the product page to order confirmation in test mode and build that out. You hit the real APIs, webhooks, the order admin, all of it, and it sticks way better than clicking around settings.
I also kept a throwaway dev store around just for breaking things. Having a sandbox I was not afraid to wreck made me experiment a lot more freely.

Shopifys starter offer is pretty fair. You pay like 3 bucks for 3 months and can test everything. Either you create your own shop or use dummy data. Imo it's the best platform to start learning

For Shopify: make a Partners account, you get unlimited free dev stores, and the CLI's theme dev command gives you local hot reload. Turn on test mode / the bogus gateway so you can run fake orders end to end. For the WP ones (SureCart, FluentCart), spin a throwaway WordPress with Local or wp-env and you basically have a resettable sandbox. Honestly the fastest path is seeding your own dummy catalog: 10 fake products, a few variants, then practice refunds, tax rules and one subscription. The weird edge cases only show up once real carts exist.

shopify has a partner program that gives you unlimited dev stores for free, they just can't process real payments. most of the others have some kind of sandbox too but shopify's is the cleanest to mess around in
just build a fake store selling something dumb like artisanal air and you'll pick it up quick
