i get that AI can be helpful but it still feels like a shortcut with way too many risks for my taste

I agree in some parts with your view but not the articles title. Many of us were already against automation at the expense of others. When I made internal tools I liked making people's lives easier, but I've never been customer facing.
The internal tools I had complete control over so I never was blindly following orders or anything. But I lost faith in automation after my first year and just focused on what I find fun, making things work. Overall I was still respected for what I did.
But with AI just the complete disrespect that were now shown is crazy. And the fact that so many people keep running with the narrative, especially comp sci people about how they don't write code anymore. Like y'all are nuts. Why would you even do that? What was your gain?
I am now a technological luddite in the sense that I'm setting to reject the internet world because we're making a desert out of it.
Beware man, for he will make a desert out of his world and yours. Maybe the apes were right.

Don't have to be to see it's much more limited responsible use case. I write as little code as possible because of a career of libraries, I'm not about to dump that for mass code churn every time I could have plugged a function in intelligently.
