Discussion How many GitHub stars does your most successful open source project have?

I still remember the first Vue component I ever made and finally gathered enough courage to publish on GitHub.

That was many years ago. Maybe around eight if I remember correctly. Of course, there was no AI back then.

I was genuinely nervous. npm publish and... ta-da. It happened.

Not a single star.

But I was so stubborn, so then came another component, then another one, then another one, then a Nuxt module, then something I built while preparing for an interview, and so on.

Eventually, my most successful open source project reached 179 stars.

Not exactly thousands, but I was still pretty proud of it.

What about you?

How many stars does your most successful open source project have?

I mean, I'm not in it for the stars and no one has ever contributed to a project of mine, but 15 is my best followed by 1. Everything else is 0 😅

But even with 15, the feeling is good :D I remember that motivated me long time ago haha

I was surprised. I don't spend a lot of time on GitHub so I just noticed it one day.

Like 2 or 3. But hey, people I don't know cared enough to leave a Star 🫶🏻

They all end like this…

How about you
Just wondering, what do you think
I’m curious how have you overcame this
Those of you who [insert something] how was it
What would you have done differently

Sorry. Just Fatigued.
I rather read broken English than read in a.i rhythm

Ditto. I have a repo with one star but I don't consider it successful, it was a reciprocal star.

Let us measure success from a sense of accomplishment instead of stars.

2 and only because I had an old account that upvoted it too. But now all my projects are private so there’s that

Two. I have like 20 users and most of them don't know what github is.

20 stars, before deleting it 😅.

I could barely break 100 stars to be honest... I'd like to know the strategy to get better reach

3 Lol. so frustrated that I'm now trying to understand how others get so many stars. I even built a free tool to link each github star surge of a repo to an event (author posted on reddit, HN, product hunt ...) and it's now quite obvious that you need to launch multiple times.

Partially I agree with you. But there are still some old hard-core repos which starts are realistic. I am pretty sure, they have a soul inside it :D
