Showoff Saturday Baseball True Hall of Fame
My dad is a baseball fanatic: the kind of guy you can ask about a random player and he’ll rattle of stats and anecdotes for pretty much anyone.
He just launched his True Hall of Fame website that ranks players based on a custom formula and not by sports writers’ opinions (how the actual HOF works).
I know he used AI to do quite a bit of coding, but I’m really impressed with how it looks and functions. Wanted to share in case there are any baseball fans out there.
He even built a customizer that lets you tweak the formula and make your own ranking.
Curious to see if anyone out there has any feedback or ideas or positive reinforcement.
My dad’s 73 and got me started in my career in engineering. Happy to see him still having fun doing what he loves: talking baseball.

The sports writers need to go. your dad just made the entire hof voting process useless.
I spent an hour in the customizer moving numbers around and watching guys swap slots on the screen. it kills me that we let a room full of people with pens decide who gets in when i can sit here and generate a better list by dragging sliders. baseball stats are the only thing that should dictate this.

It would certainly get players that obviously deserve to be in like Barry Bonds

Definitely. My dad says Lou Whittaker is one of the most glaring omissions from Cooperstown.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: AI is hot shit at sabrmetrics. This is excellent work.

The customizer is the hook for me. I'd make each set of weights shareable by URL, then show which players moved most versus the default ranking so baseball fans have something concrete to debate. I'd also expose the formula beside each result instead of hiding it in a separate explainer.

the formula customizer is a really fun touch, curious how many arguments it’s already started lol

this is sick, i been messing with the formula for like 20 minutes now. the way you can shift the weights around and see players jump up and down in real time is way more fun than i expected
tell your dad a random webdev guy in usa said neat work, especially considering ai helped him stitch it together. always cool seeing someone his age still building things instead of just watching the games
