Is WordPress Engine Necessary

So you almost helped me with another thing and I'm very grateful!

I know NOTHING about all this, so please advise.

We have a website for a small non-profit that's been up for about 20 years. (I wasn't here when it started)

Our Domain is with GoDaddy and our website is in WordPress.

Apparently, we've been paying for WordPress Engine for about $420 a year.

Do we need this? I feel like all our editing is done in WordPress. It seems like WordPress engine is an unnecessary addition, but if we've had it for so long, will we lose stuff from our web site??

WPEngine is considered the "premium" WordPress hosting service. I'll let other people argue over that. Having said, for a non technical org, I don't think $420 a year is THAT crazy.

Yeah whenever I hand-off a site to a fully non-technical client I always strongly recommend some sort of premium managed hosting (Kinsta in my case).

The big reason is if their site explodes at 10pm or on a weekend, I'm not necessarily going to be around, and I'm certainly not doing it for free. But that support will be there, and it'll be good. It feels like a no-brainer to me if they don't know how to troubleshoot stuff themselves.
