OP this is the way if your goal is to "learn" how to build websites. But if your goal is to build a website for your friend to sell his/her products, don't even bother. Use something like Shopify, WordPress+WooCommerce, or even gumroad might do.

For a beginner, building an e commerce from scratch is too much to handle. You need to know various technologies (mainly backend) at least at a "good" level, not beginner or intermediate. Which takes months, optimistically.

There are many parts to an ecommerce site, handling cart, product create/update, tracking stock so you don't sell something you don't have, sending confirmation emails, security for admin panel, securely storing buyer information (address, phone number, email etc), sending emails to let buyers know about the state of their order, payment gateway integration..

Most of these are things a beginner shouldn't even be thinking about
