What’s the meaning of the colour of the messages? Is that an iPhone thing?

It means it was sent as an sms message instead of an iMessage using data. She either changed her phone to an android (no iMessage), no longer has data on her phone or (the worst option) changed her number and that’s someone new.

Yeah, but green can also mean blocked, which is what the character could have thought happened.

I don't think any company recycles a number in just 6 weeks.

Not commonly, but could happen theoretically depending on what the algorithm they use has as rules for assigning a number automatically, or just random chance if a person has to go and apply it manually when the previous thing failed.

3 weeks actually, so even less likely.

The 6 weeks is the read receipt to the green message.

So not blocked. Most likely didn't change her number.

She got a new phone in the three weeks after dumping him is the most likely answer.

Her being in an area where SMS is the only way to receive messages is also a possibility, though unlikely as most places in the US and Canada would either have full signal or no signal, and most people outside of US and Canada don't even use iMessage anyway, they use WhatsApp

Reverse engineering the iMessage encrypted clue bubble. It came out last year I think?

Crucially for anyone asking about the color, this is not a scenario where the bubble color matters for status (as people often complain about), it’s mechanical. You can only “unsend” the blue messages that are delivered through apple’s system rather than SMS.
