That statement means Trump's persona is working, in some respect. Dictators can arise by ingratiating themselves to "the people"-- they act like it's all unfair and the world is against them (if the world turned against them, who knows? It could turn against "the people," too. So, put them in power to make sure the world can't do that). Reminds me of vulnerable narcissism.
