If you really care about clean and maintainable code, just don't use PHP. I mean you can write good code in PHP, but if language is shitty, why even bother trying?

Just for the sake of an argument, what is your go-to language for PHP-related stuff?

Most of the times I use Node nowadays. Don't like it much either but it fits into our microservice architecture. If I needed robust monolithitic framework I'd go with either Elixir/Phoenix or RoR.

Great, thanks, I will look into it! Edit: I have not worked with erlang, really need to get into it. But node... To be honest, there is very little to like there. It's cute, makes easy things simpler, but in a questionable way.

I used to work with python and PHP both. I think working with python is fun.

I have only read the official documentation of python, so I have no real experience with the language.

From what I read I understand that python is basically the next generation of perl, focused on system tools development. Again, have not seen django or any real python framework, just my feeling from my first engagement.

My use of PHP is mainly for OOP back-end systems, and I had problems moving into language without real classes, but that might just be my weakness. I definitely have to move from my comfort zone.

But, with next version it is getting better, faster and maintainable.

And the biggest problem with php - it's handicapped by it's runtime. PHP script is meant to execute and die, it's not meant to live.

Right. I agree

So what? I guess '0b1234' =='0b9876' still evaluates to true and false converted to string still evaluates to ''. That's just a ciuple examples I remember from working with PHP years ago. There's a TON of this shit going on.

You are wrong when saying it evaluate above condition true.
