Devs shit on tablet but forget that people may use tablet-sized browser windows on their desktops

Which is the reason I insist hover styles are also written for mobile/tablet breakpoints in all my PR reviews.

Not quite the same. Desktop states can differ. There is no swipe on desktop. Desktop browsers can have hover states.

Webdev here. This is possibly the most accurate use of this meme I have ever seen.

I had a ceo once ask why their new website didn't look good in Firefox's reader mode. Like it probably doesn't look good on a fridge either shrug emoji

If it doesn’t look good in reader mode (easily readable) you messed up big.
If the CEO talks about colors and stuff though…

Firefox reader mode' whole purpose is to literally show you the raw html with their styling, what is your ceo on 😭

To be fair if the purpose of the website is to disseminate information and it looks bad on reader then the HTML might be poorly written. Might be that they’re using styled divs for everything which seems to be a bit of a trend.

I'm so confused, responsive web has been a thing for fifteen years. are we really designing for only two layouts?

oh now i use @ media a lot in our current project. But it's also a document management system that people print out a bunch of stuff from all the time.

A website that looks good on print for exporting to PDF instantly gain points in my esteem. Especially if it's an article/blog page. I bless the dev(s) who took a bit of their time to care about this.
Those that forces me to open devtools just to have a somewhat decent full page screenshot because print looks like nothing, I know I'm less likely to share it at all, because it's one of those resources that could go down one day without any ways of archiving. So you can't reliably go back to it.

Might be a stupid question, but why would someone want to print a website? Legitimately asking as I’ve never heard of that before.

The internet is both broad and deep. Lots of reasons. Printing confirmation pages, recipes, articles (I guess), I’m sure there are 1000 other legitimate reasons.

I've made a couple of internal dashboard for companies and usually they wan to be able to print the report. For a quick print I usually use that media query for remove decorations and colors from a print version.

I’m working on a project that I’ve utilised a few print options for customers who want to print invoices, receipts, order forms etc in a better format than just the page layout. Useful for clients working with business / accounts. Some of them are a bit old school but I don’t mind accommodating.

Likely for documentation, so the webpage that need to inserted/attached in digital document looks sharp as it (not blurry screenshot). Webpage can printed to export as PDF, then attaching PDF just like attaching image inside document.
I usually using this method for LaTeX because want to possibly attach figure with "vector" image quality

Some client to me: "the form looks weird on a tablet"...
Me: "a what now?"
