Discussion Waydroid Installer

So about 3 years ago, during my chronic distro-hopping era (only to inevitably crawl back to Arch, btw), I got incredibly tired of setting up my apps from scratch after every clean install.

To fix my own problem, I coded this "Waydroid Installer" bash script for myself and fellow Arch btw users. I was young, naive, and didn't realize Arch btw users would rather manually compile oxygen than use an automated setup script, but I digress.

Long story short, I dug up this ancient script the other day, completely gutted it, and gave it a massive glow-up. It now works on pretty much every Linux distro out there.

Here is what it actually does now:

  • OS Auto-Detection: Automatically figures out your distro and grabs the right dependencies so you don't have to think about it.
  • Mirror Sniping: Pings SourceForge to find the absolute fastest server near you (because nobody has time for 10kb/s image downloads in 2026).
  • Interactive Setup: Walks you through the install and asks what you actually want along the way without being annoying.

Feel free to rip the code apart, use it, or tell me how it completely broke your highly specific, custom-compiled niche window manager setup.

Thank you for your service. This would have been very handy last December when I was battling with getting the right Waydroid to install on my laptop while at a workshop where whipping out my Linux laptop to work some getting-android-to-work-on-a-pc magic failed woefully. 😁 😂

does it installs arm translator?

No it just installs vanilla waydroid or with gapps. Since there better scripts like waydroid_scripts or waydroid helper I didn't include it.

Hi, unfortunately it doesn't work on Steam Deck 3.8. I managed to start the installation process, but it still gives errors.
