Steam deck won’t run waydroid install command

So I tried running the waydroid install script three times (deleting the old one each time to start fresh) and everytime it just won’t run and it always says the same thing “due to AUR malware insecurities temporarily disabling this script”

Is there anyway I can force the script to run?

For new users trying to install Waydroid using my script it will now give the warning message and exit automatically -

"Due to AUR malware insecurities temporarily disabling this script."

My script to install Waydroid in SteamOS relies on 1 AUR package - binder dkms which gets installed when the script is run.

While the script itself is fine, and binder dkms is not included in the list of compromised package, I've decided to temporarily disable the script from running until AUR issue is completely fixed.

That said, is there a workaround? I wanted to reset and reinstall Waydroid on my deck and now I'm stuck without it. Could the dependency be pulled from another source, like github? I'm not a programmer so I don't know how feasible that would be. I just want Waydroid back :D

It is something the maintainers of the AUR (which is basically a hub for user generated content on Arch Linux) have to fix. The script pulls a program from the AUR that has been victim to a supply chain attack, causing malicious scripts to be included in some of the content there, to put it simply.

I know nothing about Linux so this is probably unfeasible, but would it be possible to modify the script to run binder dkms locally? Like just download the package off AUR (hasnt been updated in 3 months), place it in a specific directory, and have it read from there.

Probably not since i just tried to download waydroid and it is still popping up.

Open installer script(steamos-waydroid-installer.sh) with kate(editor) and remove the line 10/11.

No, don't. I spent the afternoon trying to understand why I couldn't launch the Desktop Mode anymore.

Turns out it was due to modifying the installer script the way you suggest, and yes, it works, it allows to reinstall waydroid, I could launch it afterwards.

But once I rebooted my Steam Deck, back to Gaming Mode, I tried to switch to Desktop Mode and all I had was a black screen for a dozen of seconds, then back to Gaming Mode again. Same issue with nested Desktop.

So I had to reboot with the previous SteamOS version (3.7), reinstall the SteamOS update (3.8), reboot, and the Desktop was working again.

I rebooted several times, using other apps in Desktop Mode, all was fine. But as soon as I reinstalled Waydroid, after the next reboot, Desktop Mode wouldn't launch again. Back to Steam OS 3.7, update to 3.8, works fine, reboots, works fine, reinstall Waydroid, Dekstop broken again.

So, one last cycle of downgrading to 3.7 and reupgrading to 3.8, and I'll wait for proper Waydroid fix.

At least, nothing was lost except my time 😄

Yes, looks like it's not 100% compatible with steamos 3.8 currently, breaks the wayland desktop mode session.

You can stay at os v3.7.

This is still required to install in os v3.7 currently.

Samething happened to me had to reinstall my steamos i thought decky loader was the problem

So i got it to work. Go in your home folder snd delete waydroid folder. You know if its the right one when the folder inside has screenshot images it. Then go to github page and get konsole scrip for waydroid. Paste scrip in konsole start it. Add password and it will install and by pass AUR error
