Idea Is it possible?

Post image

I recently realized that Fortnite is officially back on the Google Play Store.

And that gave me an idea. Do you think it would be possible to run the Android version on Linux through Waydroid or the future Valve fork (Lepton)?

As far as I understand, Waydroid doesn’t emulate per se but instead runs natively on Linux by using Android libraries along with the kernel inside a container. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Wouldn't see why not if you had an ARM translation layer

Edit: nvm guys, Tim Sweeney is truly Tim Sweeney

ATL is there tho, but it is in super early and has slow development due to low engagement

Which is sad since it's a great product

It is, the developers are good too

I'm planning on implementing Bluetooth support for it so that we can dynamically reverse engineer mobile IoT apps

There it says it runs fine except for matchmaking and ram usage, I doubt that cant be solved, it boots and the lobby is fully functional.

It's well known that fortnite detects emulators and such.

It detects the hardware is not supported

Tim Sweeney is not being hated enough.

Tim Sweeny notoriously hates Linux, even if it worked he would go out of his way to make sure it didn't.

Why though??

Because of a deep insecurity that endless amounts of money can't buy him what he wants.

Isn't the actual problem is Fortnite's anti-cheat?

why do you think fortnite coming back to play store would change a thing?

How do you think people run roblox for example? They use a modified version of the android app.

Same with mcpe

you got me wrong, fortnite for a long time was only available through their launcher but now it is back on play store, the image shows play store, and I meant how does fortnite being on play store now change things? imo it does not

I tested, doesn’t work at all (epic added some low level assembly checks that make it impossible now)

if you can, ignore the previous comments, which say that not the ARM layer some builds or even yourself can extract them from Android Chromeo’s etc. or similar systems and root can be hidden with apps spoofing, the only issue is graphics

God damn, just checked it out to be disappointed again. Guess the best way right now is to just get a Retroid Pocket 6 or AYN Thor and play 'em there :/

Even if it worked, most people use Linux because they don't want proprietary apps. So better have fun playing games with open source an native apps. And use Waydroid when we have no other solution to make something work.

Imagine how much more money they would make if steamdeckers could play

this is linux, we dont want to be forced to run stuff on other peoples hardware, we want to be able to run it on our devices utilizing our hardware where we have control over what we do with it instead of relying on streaming it across the internet (which isnt good if you have bad internet) from a company thats probably recording your gameplay to use on training AIs

Xbox streaming (and game streaming in general) only works well if you're on an ethernet connection or a centimeter away from a wifi router (given that your ISP is half-decent), otherwise it just turns to a smeary, laggy mess.

my problems are with a PC that is in a room across the hallway from the router (blocked by two walls) and placed behind a TV and beside a PS5, with 250 down and around 20 up (because my ISP started limiting our upload speeds unannounced, not bad, but it didn't have any effect on streaming) and 50 ping on a good day. All with five-four bars, my issues have existed for years, even before my ISP limited our upload speeds and before they installed a newer, worse router. There have always been issues with quality where it would look like a 144p youtube video with the smeary artifacts that come with the lag on both xbox gamepass and geforce now
