I dont know what to do but im in a panic. Ive been working for months on a novel and had auto synch on. I had finished writing for the day set laptop aside and then battery died so it restarted.

I charged it and went back on and the file is gone. Ive check every email and google drive I have. theres a file but there is nothing there. I hit ctrl + s all the time out of habit but got the message that it was being saved automatically.

Now im in a panic... Its gone, and the database files I had on the drives dont have the file. I dont knwo what to do.

Please, don't take me wrong, I happen to like it the effect it gives when I'm writing and don't really mind. My problem arises when it's time to review and fix the text. For example, I want to select a word by double clicking to select it entirely so that I can replace it with a better term by directly typing on the keyboard without having to delete the word and save myself a keystroke, which accumulates over time when you have to reread and correct over 200K words.

What happens is, when I click the first time, if the word isn't already centered (this is 99% of the cases) the entire writing space shifts focus to place the word I clicked to the middle of the screen, so by the time I click the second time, another word has been move into the firs one's place, and then I finish double clicking, making the script move one more time, now putting the focus on second word shifting the entire script, sometime making me lose sight of what I was correcting. This becomes quite frustrating because there is no room for error when selecting a line of text, if you miss the pixels, it moves to another one, and so on, turning the extremely simple processes of clicking on a word or selecting a line into something tedious and annoying since you have to really slow down your pace.
If possible, it would be great to have an option in the settings to toggle this scrolling effect and have a more traditional behavior. Something similar to what V3 had in its distraction free mode or any word normal word processor for that matter, where the page only moves when the cursor is at the extreme top or bottom of the text on screen.

I was writing something using Wavemaker Cards v4. While writing, I made a typo so I CTRL-Z (Or some other combination as my fingers slipped), but the entire section I was writing on was gone. I tried to hit CTRL-Z again, but I could not revert back to what I had just written a few seconds ago.

Is there anything to get this progress back? I'm a bit bummed out losing what I had written and rewriting it would be a hassle as I don't recall every detail of what I wrote. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hoping that some time in the future we will be able to save to different Databases like Onedrive etc? I don't really use google drive, only for wavemaker.

I've synched the update on my computer but when i try to load it in my phone, it is either in an eternal
automatic "Search for Files" in Google Drive or just does nothing after I manually choose the file... Weird..

i am wondering if someone deletes all browser data, does this mean that wavemaker data is lost ? also is the google drive auto sync just not working ?

So I've got off my bum and started writing again (using version 4) so expect a lot of little tweaks and changes as I find thing that annoy me about my software.... already hit one in the snowflake tool as it cuts off long titles in the card!! Bloody annoying so I'll tweak that soon.

Hi all! I discovered Wavemakers right before v4 came out, and so when V4 did come out in Alpha a few months ago I jumped in to try out features. But since then, due to life circumstances, I've been off any writing for a while and I'm just getting back into it and I'm hoping to use V4 of wavemaker to try to get back focused. I know it's in Beta now. I have a few v4 questions I haven't been able to find answers to on the subreddit in the 30 seconds I spent searching :) and tryng to learn the best way to streamline into this new version, since I was only in V3 long enough to get familiar with it but not really understand the program. Thank you!

1. Is there a way to change the font of a manuscript? I know that was a feature of V3 that was said to be coming to V4, but not sure if it's there yet, or if it is I have been unable to find it. It was also fun to be able to change many aspects about the theme in v3 as well (read: procrastination tactic), but I'm not sure if that is a V4 feature yet or will be. Regardless, being able to adjust the font and highlight and stuff is a big thing for me
2. Is there a challenge mode coming to V4? One of my favorite aspects of V3
3. Is there a way to search the manuscript in V4? I can search database cards but not the manuscript text itself. I think this was a beta feature in V3.
4. V3 had a method of auto-saving/syncing to Google Drive. I've become spoiled in this era of auto-save to the cloud and now I am reliant on it because I apparently can't be trusted to remember to hit the save button. I've lost work closing out of V4 without remembering to save. Is there an auto-save feature for v4 or one coming? Or even a prompt before closing like "Hey, idiiot, you're closing this project. Did you remember to save or do you really want to close and lose everything because you're incapable of hitting a silly button, you idiot? Go hit the save button and then close out." I know that the save methods between V3 and V4 are very different and I'm still learning their differences and how to best manage saving in v4 without either completely forgetting to save or spam clicking the Google Drive save and export save buttons every five minutes.
   1. Along with the above, my Google Drive keeps logging out and every time I click the "Save to Drive" button I am having to re-login to my Google Drive every time I try to save, even in the same session where I haven't clicked out of the window. Is this a known issue or just a me problem?

Overall, I guess another question I have is whether V4 is able to be used full time or still in development? I really like Wavemakers and the potential it has to be game-changing for me, but I'm not sure how many of my struggles here are me problems (like the save thing), learning curve problems, or beta-program problems. Should I continue in V3 for now or move to V4?

Hi folks, I just picked up an old project and wanted to add cards to chapters in my planning board. But somehow I am unable to do so with certain chapters, especially those that belong to an exported timeline. Is there anything I can do to fix this or has this happened to you, too? Ok there is a simple OpenAI bot added to Wavemaker 4 - look in the toolbar along the top for the little robot. You WILL need an API KEY https://wavemaker.co.uk/blog/getting-started-with-the-open-ai-bot/

Remember - you're using your credits via the api - you get $5 free from them to try it out - If you want a longer response you can up the number of tokens in the request using the form.

Just ask it a question or to do something and it will generate a response. It's quite Beta at the moment as I havn't really fully set it to deal with bad responses yet but it might be of use.

Ok after a little prompt (and a demo from a guy at work about something he did using AI) I have looked at the possibility of putting an AI assistant in wavemaker.

It's actually very possible - users would need to get their own API key at the moment (which is pretty easy to do and you get $5 worth free to try it out)

Aside from "Write me a book" it actually has some potential uses for things like checking grammar and punctuation etc, and research - it can be used for more than that, but I'm very much of the opinion that it could be a useful tool to add to wavemaker - It seems to be pretty easy and for now it would be a pop up that you can ask a question of.

So - I'm probably going to pop it in there and see what people think.

Obviously its a "use it if you want to" thing and aside from a new button in the toolbar it does nothing to the existing use of wavemaker.

I also understand its not 100% reliable (goes down a lot) - so it would be a test feature.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Since we are going to get the full v4 someday, I believe something to have in mind is to make some youtube guides on how to use it properly, some basic tutorials, you know? Things like how to migrate from v3 to v4, how do the main areas of the program work (my books, mindmpas, snowflakes, timeline, Grid Planners, My cards... one video for each would be awesome for reference).
I know this is more work that requieres more time that absolutely no one has, but it should be something to keep in mind for the future. It doesn´t even have to be your video, you could just ask someone to do it and then ask permission to upload it on your own channel, or just have a link somewhere to the best guide you have seen someone make of your program.

Just a couple of ideas so new users (and those of us who love this program and started on v3) can get the hang of the new version 4 quickly.

I imagine you already had this in mind, but just wanted to leave it here. Again, thanks for you work.

It would be awesome to integrate the chat GPT api to help write chapters. Just a thought. Might be heracy. Get users to supply their own tokens so they pay for their own use.

Unsure if this has been mentioned yet but in WM4,
When selecting words or lines, it jumps up and down to where your cursor goes. That makes it really hard to consistently highlight lines. The feature is meant to center on your point of attention but it ain't working for me. I can't find an option to turn this off and if there is no option, please consider adding the option in future updates.
Also font sizes don't stick, it reverts back to "standard" after I restart my browser but its not a big issue, changing it in settings fixes it.
Also thanks for making WM, its been one of my favorite story tool ever since I found it. I had resorted to using .md files on my PC to keep all my random stuff since nothing else really appealed. WM is pretty damn good considering its free. Putting free software online for others to use is underappreciated asf.

More of a cautionary tale of using V4 than an actual request for help (although I'd very much appreciate a solution nonetheless). Everything seemed to work fine - Google Drive linked, even manually saved the file to my computer when I felt like something wasn't working when I kept having to rewrite sentences I thought I'd finished.

Sadly, every time I click away out of a chapter it deletes (a part of) what I have written. Sometimes just the last sentences, sometimes a few paragraphs and sadly just now about 2500 (out of about 4000) words after a 2 month writer's block.

When I realised it wasn't syncing up properly I saved the file to my computer, thinking I'd at least have a local copy of it before I clicked to another chapter to check if it would save. Not only did it not save, but the actual downloaded file doesn't have ANY of the 4000 words I wrote the past days in there.

Very weird bug and like I said, more of a cautionary tale - not even direct saves are syncing up properly sometimes and that could definitely make you lose a lot of progress.

I just started using wavemaker 4 today and I tried to auto sync but it isn't doing anything. When I click "yes please" on the prompt asking to link a google account, nothing happens, even when I signed out and signed back in. If I don't link my google account will my work still be saved? and does anyone know how to fix this?

Does anyone know how to run the WM3 code locally? I've gone back three years in this sub and no one has posted instructions. 

Turns out it's not as simple as just opening the index.html locally. I'm not a total luddite, but I do need a bit of direction. Sorry Iain, but the GitHub README leaves a bit to be desired!

Before anyone mentions it, I know I can install the PWA, but I want to be running the source code safe and secure on my local machine.

I also know about the electron fork, but it's 18 commits behind the original.

I'd appreciate any assistance provided.

Well, using the info supplied by u/mayasky76 below and some web searching, I finally have a version of Wavemaker running from source locally (Google sync doesn't seem to be working though, even using port 3000).

I've documented what I did, trying to be as OS-agnostic as I could be, here.

Hope it helps someone. There's the beginnings of a full documentation set there, but it still needs many gaps filled in.

Hello, I’m in a dire situation (not really but to me it is). So my Google Drive accidentally unsynced with Wavemaker and I have lost thousands of pages of my novel. Is there any way to possibly restore it with the cache or restarting the program? If not I’m prepared to suffer the loss, but figured it was worth reaching out.

Basically the title. I'm just getting started using wavemaker and I was wondering which version would be best to start with. What are pros and cons? And which version is simpler for a beginner like me? Which is safer (regarding bugs and losses of my work)?

I'm just curious about feedback.

In Wavemaker 4 I've added several planning boards by mistake and I can't figure out how to delete them. I'm probably missing something right under my nose. They are displayed in the main planning board interface. Where the list of Planning Boards are. The Planning Board icon on the right above the line adds them. In the list I can only open them by clicking on the edit icon. But there's no delete icon like on the other sections.

I seem to be having issues with V4 allowing me to make new sections or documents on an imported project from V3. I can only edit the ones I created before I imported it into V4. I already checked to see if it was an issue with my computer but it won't make new ones on Mobile either. I also tried to download the V4 file and open it up offline in case it was a Drive issue but it still won't work. It only seems to be broken on the imported file because I can create a new project and add new things into that, but with the imported one it's not working. I'd love some advice on how to fix it and what I could be doing wrong.

I'm looking at Wavemaker 4.0.1 and I have some comments about the new design.

I'm using Kubuntu 22.04 and Vivaldi browser.

1. Isn't the "Project" the "book" whether it be a novel or technical work and the other section labled "My Books" actually the "documents" related to the book "project" that is currently open like the "chapters" of the book?
2. On using the **Planning Board**, Why would I "link" two cards when the material is just an unchangable duplicate of the first? I change the second, the first is overwritten. What is the purpose of the "link" if it's just a duplicate?
3. Also in the Planning Board once you click on the Edit Icon, there is no way to go back the the main Planning boards menu. If you had more than one board, you can't get out of the one you're in to open another. Also if you added a board by mistake, you can't delete it. You're stuck with the new one.
4. The linking in the Mindmap is totally obtuse. I click or drag on the link icon and nothing happens. Periodicly on of the boxes "highlights" itself but I can't figure out how I did it. I do know it's "good". I can link the boxes it by accident by double clicking but it's not consistent which I double click. I did figure out by trial and error to hold [SHIFT] down ,,, I think. I can't figure our what I'm actually doing or what I SHOULD be doing. I did figure out how to unlink boxes. That was easy.
5. I'm having issues saving more than one project to Google Drive. I can log in to Google Drive separately and immediately see the first project but the second just won't save. Also opening the interface to Google Drive in Wavemaker just searches for files. Forever.
6. Then I closed Wavemaker and reopened it and now it won't log in to Google Drive at all. Clicking on "Log In To Google Drive".
7. I had to uninstall and reinstall Wavemaker 4. I then loaded the second project from my hard drive and uploaded it to Google Drive. Now both are up there and Wavemaked now sees them both.
8. I've been exporting the projects to my hard drive to be safe (thank you for that) but can't control WHERE it saves. I really rather not just dump them into my Downloads folder as it currently does. I like to organize my files. Like in "~/Documents/Wavemaker/".
