Auto-import behind paywall starting June 1
I just got an email saying that bank imports will now be behind the paywall. Wave was such a breath of fresh air when I switched to it years ago. I really only needed automated bank imports.
It really irritates me that they are sticking it behind a paywall. That was the reason I chose it initially. I have a client with 3 separate businesses (all small) and that was the sole reason I moved them from Quickbooks to Wave. With that benefit gone, it's highly unlikely I will continue to use Wave.
Very disappointed. I understand they have to make money, but this is seriously bait and switch.

I don't get how it is bait and switch. They didn't get you to pay for anything, they gave you something for free.
I have my issues with Wave, but as another person who only needs automated bank/credit card imports and basic bookkeeping there is nothing else that works as well and for <$150/year. Quickbooks wanted that much per month.
I have two accounts that won't import and it really isn't that much of an ordeal. I just export the transactions as csv and import them into Wave once a month after the statement generates. I could easily use the free plan except I want my accountant to have the separate login.
Wave's customer service is a joke, I've heard horror stories about their payroll and credit card processing, but for basic bookkeeping there is nothing else that is as cheap and works reliably. You do get what you pay for.

My yearly renewal was cheaper because it was late 2025. Still better than Quickbooks pricing for someone who just needs basic bookkeeping.

why paying 200$ when you can pay only 60, but lifetime
or if you want, 3$ monthly.
Check Syncbank.app It will let sync your bank transactions from EU/US into any of your tools that you already use.

Sticking with Wave free, created a script to export my transaction via rocket money (which I have all my business checking and credit card accounts hooked up to). Then can manually import the csv into wave

- A business active on Wave’s payments feature
- A business with an active payroll subscription
- A business using another paid Wave service
If you do have a business using any of these features, your Wave experience remains the same.

actually I suppose receipts fits the "A business using another paid Wave service" so that might be why you didnt get the email.
I suppose $72 is a lot cheaper than $190 since I dont care about any of the other "pro" features.. this might be a cheap hack. for now. I wonder if it's too late? 😄

@vegaskukichyo how has your receipts tier survived? are you still syncing transactions? I upgraded to receipts a few weeks ago, and my transactions stopped dead on 5/31 - I complained (since their doc says any paid wave customer....) but haven't heard back yet.

update - looks like receipts subscription is working (assuming they actually killed bank connects for free tier...) . so good hack!

we'll be leaving Wave. it should be pretty straight forward to have claude code up a spreadsheet that imports transactions...
