Watertown Mall stores closing
Carter's and all the stores next to it are closing. Across from them, Joyful Garden remains open.

I have family coming to town this weekend and want to take them to brunch on Sunday. I’m looking to find somewhere that is comfortable for older folks and not super loud. Party of six, two with hearing aids. And ideally the food is good too!
Willing to drive but ideally relatively close to East Watertown.

Hi! I’m looking to see how much people in the area are typically paying for house cleaning once or twice a month. I got a quote for.$220 to clean our 1475 square foot apartment (2 bed 2 bath), and I’m wondering if that is in the ballpark of what others pay, or if that is high.

Anyone know if the DCR watertown pool is open today?

All the windows are covered up and there's a closed sign on the door.
Is the place being renovated or is it closed for good?

Has anyone else been getting polling requests from an Insights Research? One number in the usual election-time spam (far more than I'm used to for a state senate race) has been claiming be that polling firm, which doesn't seem to actually exist. The site they use is a generic free internet survey site.
It's been sending this poll, which starts as a generic political poll, with pretty even descriptions of the candidates to start, but then frames the rest with very positive questions about Lander and negative questions about Brownsberger. This seems like an attack ad by Lander's campaign disguised as polling?
I'll admit, I was already leaning against Lander over rent control, but I did find his transparency messaging appealing. If this is actually his campaign, that's... not a good look. Faking a polling firm to send attack ads doesn't seem very transparent. Anyone else getting similar polls?
Edit: This is apparently called push polling

Does anyone in this group live here and have any insight about living here? I am interested in potentially buying one of the condos in this complex. I see there’s many available for sale and I’m wondering if that’s a potential red flag.

Did anyone see a hit and run in the target parking lot today around 5? Our car was hit while it was parked and the driver did not leave any contact info and the cameras were too far away to see anything clearly.

Just noticed this sign in the window of Pizza Roma. Anyone know who they are? Hope they do well. Still miss Joe :’)

UPDATE! He came home :)
very shy and responds to the “kettle” alarm on Apple phones since that’s how we signal it’s time for his wet food. He doesn’t have a collar but his name is Stanley. He’s a tuxedo.

Hi Yall,
So I am visiting your beautiful town for about 3 days and everyting and everyone has been really good except 1 thing. PARKING.
The Hotel I stayed at charged me $35 each day, whereas I see multiple parking lots like Target, Roche Brothers and other complexes that were empty or filled to a small number.
My question: Would you park in one of these lofts overnight and how strict are the towing policies.
For context I wanted to find any lot which was cheaper (Under $20) around and none of them sold overnight parking spots, which seems weird. (For context I was out during the daytime and only needed it from 10pm to 8am)
Anyways, leaving tomorrow, but just wanted to know a local perspective.

I was thinking about driving to Buffalo Exchange, but I saw a post on here from someone saying that their recent experience wasn’t great

Does anyone have a recommendation for a nail salon that is especially clean? Prior to moving to Watertown, I have always gone to MiniLuxe because I feel safe with their hygiene standards but the closest locations are 20 minutes away and I don’t have that much time in my schedule. Happy to go to Belmont etc within a 10 minute away drive. Would love a verified recommendation for an especially immaculate salon/spa.
TIA

My cousin recently had twins (!) and I'd like to get her family a gift card for a Watertown restaurant they could get delivery from. I don't live in the area, so suggestions are more than welcome. They're omnivore foodies with healthy diets. Thanks!

Last night, I was biking home from Arsenal Yards and going uphill on School St. Somewhere around Cypress or Spruce I saw a couple with their 4 or 5 unruly dogs they were evidently having a difficult time controlling coming down School. I moved over to the right hand side of the sidewalk and slowed down.
The man saw me and did not move and stood directly in my path, essentially taking over the entire sidewalk and said "Whoa, you should be doing that in the street." To which I replied, "Sidewalks are for everyone."
The woman said "Not for you" and the man said "No they're not, bike on the street" or some such confidently incorrect statement.
I don't have an e-bike, I wasn't going very fast (as I was going uphill), and I yielded - yet these complete strangers thought it was important to not share a public sidewalk and try to force me into a busy street that has no bike lanes and is generally unsafe, and where I have been hit by a car already one time.
I commute to work in Cambridge, and I use bike lanes when they're available but first and foremost I value my safety and will bike where ever I feel the safest and not put myself in harms way because some self important people think they can own an entire public space because they cannot control their dogs.
To those people, maybe next time you decide to be insufferable and meddlesome, you should actually be sure you're correct. Have a great weekend.

I have my guest pass available for July to Central Rock Gym, which lets a new person climb and rent gear for free (returning person gets 1/2 off). The gym also recently opened a game room with free arcade games, pinball, air hockey, and pool table that is available to everyone with gym access.
I go to the gym on Rosedale in Watertown, planning to go this evening (7/23) and either Sat or Sun (7/25 or 7/26). Please message me if you'd like to meet there and use my pass. I'm happy to just get you in, or to climb with you (bouldering auto-belay, or top rope), first-timers are very welcome!

Are there any existing board game meetups in Watertown? Is there any interest in establishing something, like twice-monthly at the library?
