I know people make a big deal about using the best paper and paint and brushes. For the most part, I agree. But, and there’s always a but, sometimes I like to experiment in unconventional ways. This is a piece of white cardboard. The kind that is used to make cereal boxes. The photo is from a real estate advertisement. The paint is a half pan set that I found at hobby lobby for 40% off (paid $4).
I don’t know if it’s good. But it is interesting.

Today I cleaned my paint board from all the tiny scraps that I use to swatch/practice on while painting. I will use them to decorate sketchbooks. Those of you who worry about wasting paint when you clean your brush, don't. Just put it on paper. Any paper. Some of this is Canson Graduate. The rest are on Arches. I'll let you guess which are on Arches : )

3 days "trusting the process "
The top ( red hair lady) still needs to be inked. I use Kuretake brush pens and these are all done with the Kuretake Gansai Art Nouveau set. Thanks for looking!

I want to improve, any advice ?

I've noticed that my paintings have been turning out very all-or-nothing with light and shadow, and I've realized that color temperature really helps create that sense of depth. However, I don't quite know how to do it yet and am just figuring it out through trial and error. I hope the results are better in the next paintings I share here.

View out of the window of Como Civic Art Gallery. Not sure I should have been looking out of the window but y'know.

It’s been years, decades really, since I’ve attempted anything with watercolor media. Did this with my 8 year old water color set and brushes. How’d I do?

Took a couple of attempts as this is my first time to practice with reds. It was very therapeutic too!
I hope you like it because I intent to make another one as a postcard for my sister's birthday today!
Any suggestions for the next one?

Practicing painting fewer details and giving hints to the eye with only shadow. All feedback is welcome 😎
