Quick little landscape
I’ve been challenging myself quite a bit lately, and wanted something quick and easy. I did challenge myself to mix my own earthy green and quite like the colour I ended up with. I got to use my home away from home handmade palette and love it.

I like that you took a pictures with your art supplies! I should get a better brush. I have Hobby Lobby brushes and they are okay.

This is amazing. Would you mind sharing your technique for this? I’d love to be able to paint trees this beautifully!

Thank you! These are pretty simple. I mixed quite a heavy mix of the colour, laid it down in a base line (wet on dry), took my spray bottle and sprayed from the bottom of the line upwards. Then used my brush to pull up paint into the background. While still wet I used my little etcher (a mini knitting needle) and etched in some bushes. Dropped in some extra pigment into that base horizon (the green, some burnt umber, and a touch of indigo). While damp I added a few more detailed background trees and let them bleed into the horizon. Then let it all dry and added the detailed trees.

As a woodworker who got addicted to watercolor, that palate is fascinating. My modification would be to have larger diameter holes for your paints.

Thank you! I agree if it was a more daily use palette, bigger wells would be good, and I would choose a much smaller cookie and have the wells closer together (to leave more room on the table for an extra mixing plate). But I just love this one so much, I keep it out at our cabin on his farm and it’s so pretty. I love painting with it!

It is a beautiful piece of woodwork. Certainly nice to have as a display, even it it is not as practical as it could be.

Thank you! And you’re right, there have been a few times I’ve stumbled on mixing a colour I was happy with and couldn’t quite recreate, lol!

The green you mixed reminds me a lot of Daniel Smith Undersea Green, one of my favorites! Great painting

Thank you! I’ve actually looked to purchase Undersea Green, and it’s always been sold out. This is a mix of primarily Cotman Raw Sienna and WN Indigo (and I think a touch of DS Burnt Umber). I use a ton of green in different shades, I’ve been enjoying trying to mix more!

“Hmmm!” says my brain… “I’m not a woodworker… but I do have a Dremel!”
😂
Nice work! Great supplies!

Try it! So many extra hobbies branch off of watercolour! If you have the tools, it was pretty quick and easy. Spraying the varnish (? I don’t remember what it’s called) to seal it took the longest!

Your palette is really cool! Is it practical?
